Tony's knows carburetors & AC solenoids. Older cars with a carb need an idle speed boost when running the AC. The extra load will make the engine idle low enough to stall at stops. Yes, you can turn a screw and bring the idle speed up, but now the engine has a run on condition because of the higher idle. An AC kicker solenoid will boost the idle speed up just enough to support the AC compressor load, but when you turn the AC off or turn off the engine. The throttle arm will return to a closed position and the engine stops normally. No run on condition. Tony’s Service Center Phoenix, Arizona 85016. We service & repair all types of foreign and domestic vehicles from the 1950s to present day. All repairs come with a 24-month / 24,000-mile warranty. Tony's knows ignition coils. The tiny black circle in the middle of the bottom image is a small hole burnt into the silicone coil boot. This tiny hole was allowing coil, spark energy to leak through the silicone and cause a engine misfire. Code P0303 cylinder 3 miss. A engine misfire will cause poor fuel economy, vibration and can potentially damage the catalytic converter. If your check engine light is on or flashing at you. You should have your vehicle inspected. The check engine light is going to be on for a reason. Do not ignore a check engine light being on. Tony's Service Center Phoenix, Arizona 85016

Tony's knows no starts. A failure to start, cranking, but the engine will not run. Check for good voltage, engine cranks strong, spark is good and the injectors click correctly. Now add some propane and the engine runs for a moment, so I know its missing fuel pressure. A fuel pump test shows the pump has a ground and power from the relay that the ECM turns on during engine cranking. The next thing is to look at is the fuel pump motor. Is it doing any work. An amp test while power is applied to the fuel pump will show if the pump windings are making a connection. The pump draws 6 amps, but does not pump. We have a connection, but the pump does not spin up and pump fluid. Time to replace the pump. Tony's installs many fuel pumps every year. We see all types of vehicles that need fuel pumps replaced. The average life span of a fuel pump is around 8 years. Your results may vary. Tony's Service Center Phoenix, Arizona 85016

Tony's knows oil fouled spark plugs. At 280,000 miles you can expect an engine to be worn out. Worn piston rings, worn valve guides are very common. The plugs in the images are from a 3.0L Ford V6. Its been using oil for the last year. Cylinder #5 on top of the oil fouling, it only has 85 psi compression. :( The engine is 24 years old. It had regular oil services and has never been overheated. It just old and tired. So do you fix a 24 year old vehicle or go buy a replacement vehicle? A Ford ranger with no major body or interior wear is hard to find. The little truck still has many good things going for it. Sad to say the client gave up. Sold it privately for scrap. Its kind of sad, but its the way it goes. Tony's knows broken manifold bolts... 2006 Ford 6.8L V10, this is a up hill task that will test your patience & is a big pain to do in a van chassis. The video clip is the last of 6 broken bolts I removed to install a new exhaust manifold on the drivers side of the engine. 4.5 hours start to finish, but with all new studs and nuts the task was good to go. Ford has a updated mounting kit and revised torque spec to use on the V10 engine. Its said it helps to keep studs from breaking. Go figure... Tony's Service Center Phoenix, Arizona 85016

Tony's knows make it work till we can find a replacement! Old Jeeps and very hard to find parts. The rear gate, window lift drive uses a cable drive and large motor to lower and raise the glass. In the image you can see that I made a splint out of a fuel hose & clamps to hold the cable and threaded collar together. Just like placing a brace or splint on a broken leg or broken arm to keep it in place. Some times you have to pull a rabbit out of a hat and make it work. Tony's knows water pumps. A 1998 Toyota Tacoma 2.4L water pump has gone bad, what to do? The client has been adding coolant for months and ignoring the leaky water pump. The truck was towed in today because it would not start, a failed fuel pump was the problem. I checked the vehicle out for other needs, it had many!!! The client decided to take care of some of the biggest issues along with doing a oil change. Do not wait till your vehicle breaks down to get an inspection. Regular oil changes and inspections can help to prevent breakdowns. Tony's Service Center Phoenix, Arizona 85016

Tony's knows Jaguar. The pcv system vents crankcase gases back into the engine through the pcv valve "positive crankcase valve" The pcv valve has engine vacuum applied to it anytime the engine is running. When the Jaguar pcv valve goes bad, "torn diaphragm" the bad valve causes a internal vacuum leak that effects the way the engine idles and will cause the check engine light to turn on. P0171 and p0172 lean engine system codes will be set in the pcm "engine computer" Replacement is not easy, but if you have worked on many European cars you know that every task has a work flow. Follow the repair guide and its not to bad to do. Tony's Service Center Phoenix, Arizona 85016.

Tony's knows control arm bushings. Great find today. Front lower control arms with worn bushings will cause toe tire wear, steering and tracking issues. Your vehicle will not hold its lane. Braking control is also effected by this type of bushing wear. If you have ever hit the brakes hard, in a panic stop and almost changed lanes, that's what can happen with this kind of wear out condition. Tony's Service Center Phoenix, Arizona 85016
