Meet Kirby, one of the body men here at Heck's. 🔧

Kirby has been in the collision industry for 19 years. He is I-CAR certified in structural steel, and certified in aluminum welding and riveting. Craig calls him our rockstar body man, and one look at what he handles day to day explains why:

- Cutting off and replacing panels
- MIG and resistance welding, including aluminum
- Straightening frames on our state-of-the-art frame machine
- Dent repair, metal straightening, and body filler work
- Pre-fitting and aligning panels so the fitment and gaps are right before anything goes to paint

Plus whatever else the team needs from him that day.

Outside the shop, Kirby is spending time with his wife and family, hunting, riding motorcycles, catching sports games and rock concerts, or on vacation. When he's not doing any of that, he's working on house projects. If it's with his best friend, aka his wife, he's happy to do it.

His dream car? A 1951 Mercury.

A paint booth is part of how Heck's got started.

Craig Heck grew up around engines, paint booths, and body shops. As friends told friends and demand grew, Craig bought a paint booth and expanded into a dedicated facility. That is the shop you know today.

Paint is still at the center of what we do. We are a certified PPG Collision Repair Center, and every refinish is handled in-house, in a clean, controlled booth environment, using advanced color-matching technology and OEM-quality materials. The goal is a repair you cannot find.

Up here it is about more than looks. A proper finish is what protects your vehicle from the Arizona sun, the heat, and the road debris that comes with White Mountains driving. This is what the middle of a repair actually looks like.

Every vehicle that comes in for collision work gets its own cart. As the damaged area comes apart, every bumper cover, grille, bracket, and headlight assembly goes onto that vehicle's cart, tagged with its repair order. Nothing gets mixed up, nothing gets lost, and nothing gets reused that should have been replaced.

Teardown is also where we find what nobody can see from the outside. The crushed absorber behind a bumper cover that looked fine. The cracked bracket. The bent mount. That is why a careful teardown matters, and why the first estimate is not always the final one.

It is not the glamorous part of the job. It is the part that makes the rest of it right.

Starting October with a thank you.

Paul brought us his Ford and left this review on CarWise. The line that stuck with us was not the one about the repair. It was the last one: everyone there was very friendly and nice to work with.

Doing the bodywork correctly is the job. That part is not optional. How you get treated while your vehicle is in our care is a choice we make every morning, and it matters most when you are having a rotten week because of an accident you never asked for.

The days are getting shorter, and if your headlights have gone yellow and hazy, you are about to notice it.

Oxidized headlight lenses can cut your usable light dramatically. On dark mountain roads where elk step out of the treeline, that difference is not cosmetic, it is stopping distance.

Headlight restoration is quick, affordable, and one of the highest value things you can do before the darker months. It also makes an older vehicle look years newer.

Happy first day of fall, White Mountains.

The aspens are starting to turn, the mornings have an edge to them, and it is getting dark noticeably earlier than it did a month ago. These next few weeks are the best of the whole year up here.

Fall is also short at this elevation, and it is the window where everything is still easy. Sealing a paint chip before moisture gets into it. Clearing a hazy headlight before the early dark. Fixing a windshield chip before the first hard frost and the defroster find it. All of that is simple in September and expensive in January.

So enjoy the season, take the long way home through the pines, and sometime this week give your vehicle ten minutes and good light.

Twenty-five years.

Today we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and we honor the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and ordinary people who ran toward the danger when everyone else was running away.

We also think of those still carrying the cost of that day, and of the first responders here in the White Mountains who answer the call for our own community every single day.

Never forget.

Happy Labor Day from all of us at Heck's Collision Center!

Today is about the people who build, fix, and keep things running. In our trade that means the technicians who learn a new vehicle platform every year, match a paint finish by eye and by science, and put a family's car back together right.

We are grateful for our crew and for the skilled tradespeople all across the White Mountains.

Our shop is closed today for the holiday. We will be back Tuesday at 8:00 AM.

If you are traveling home from the lake or the rim, take your time out there. The roads are busy and there is no prize for arriving five minutes sooner!

Heading out on the forest roads this holiday weekend?

Those roads throw rocks.

Every chip in your paint is a spot where moisture can get to bare metal, and once winter arrives that small chip turns into rust. The fix now is simple. The fix in spring is bodywork.

If your hood, front bumper, or leading edges have collected chips this summer, get them sealed up before the cold and moisture set in. It is one of the cheapest things you can do to protect your vehicle's value.
