magneto timing. Point gap set, find top dead center with manufacture designated way, piston stop or degree wheel. With advance mechanism lever it gives you several degrees adjustment so not as critical as a fixed system.
Find tdc, then mark rod then mark dimension btdc on rod. Loosen magneto drive gear and seperate since it is on a taper. Install a piece of cellophane plastic .001" between contacts. With pistion at position btdc rotate magento until you can pull cellophane out then without turning anything lock down magneto nut. Double check as slipping does happen.

Tore down Scott flying squirrel Engine due to mechanical seal leak and other problems..found several major issues.
Replaced mechanical seals with garloc(lip) seals and made shims to set axial play.

1974 Can Am seat foam a little sacked out from age. Used a dense 1/2" foam to cover low areas and sanded.
For a smooth transition i added silicon sealer using a wide putty knife. After that a thin sheet of flex foam, 2 sided .

BSA A65 Spitfire cases, cleaned years of oil,grease and other baked on debris with gas and scraper,stiff bristle brush and a few heavy rags. A fun part of resto, NOT! Then rinsed all in clean tank and then used a medium cupped steel bristle brush in a rpm regulated down to 50 psi air grinder tool(high speed grinder)

Blind holes located with a hole locater..used a transfer punch to make it useing a sardine lid and it actually worked good for this job. Marked drilling location with a cut down pencil on a alligator clip. Photo shows a few different home made hole finders and marking pencils to get into difficult areas.
Wire roll(spring steel or piano wire) to make the springs, wind on lathe or even a bolt in a vise for lighter ones.
