Wallowa Whitman National Forest

3.7 mile out and back
1,013 feet of elevation gain
Moderate to steep incline on the way in, downhill on the way out
No bathrooms
Parking was plentiful and hardly anyone else on the trail today!
Dog friendly, but leashes required (we took ours off leash to swim when no one else was there 😊)

Went exploring out in eastern Oregon today while I had a few hours free from class and homework! My plan was to go hiking, but it didn’t end up working out, so instead I searched for some pretty viewpoints and ended up finding one of the most stunning alpine lakes in the Pacific Northwest! The videos and photos truly do no justice to places like this!

Been thinking today about how thankful and blessed I am. Spent this past weekend in Bend, OR at the geriatric society conference for a day and was able to see my friend do her poster presentation, my husband surprised me and brought the dogs out to see me from home, and I got to stay with my friend who owns my dogs sister from the same litter (aka my niece). Had good food, enjoyed beautiful weather, and made it back to La Grande safely for my third week of rural rotation. I miss home so much, but I’m so so thankful for everyone who has made me feel welcome in my clinic, and for new friends who are also roomies!
As the weather gets colder here in eastern Oregon, I’m sure glad to have a warm bed to sleep in and nice company while I’m here. I’m off tomorrow with the exception of a discussion meeting so hopefully will be able to get out and maybe explore a little.

More fall shenanigans 🥾🏔️🏞️ almost halfway through my rural rotation this term in Eastern OR! I miss my husband and my animals so much. However, it is so insanely beautiful out here! It’s been cool to scope out places we could have the potential to move once I’m finished with NP school. Next weekend I get to do a little more exploring with my husband when he comes to visit and I’m so excited to plan a fun weekend together! I’ve been in clinic most of the day plus a long commute, but it sure is a pretty area if you have to drive! What’s on your eastern Oregon bucket list that I should add to mine?

If you’re in the mood for a quick .5 mile walk in and out, plus a little scrambling over some slippery logs, Munson Creek Falls is a fun stop on the way to the Oregon Coast! Nothing like a gorgeous day with leaves starting to change in the Pacific Northwest to make me excited for fall 🍁 and nothings cuter than matching Danner with my hubby 🥾🥹 and the best part is I thrifted his, the perfect size and brand new!!

My camera roll in the thousands 💁🏼‍♀️ I always say I’m gonna go through my photos but I feel like I never do 😂 but gosh it’s sure fun to relive the memories! Can’t wait to see what memories will come in my new adventure in eastern Oregon for the next month! I’m headed out tomorrow for my rural clinic rotation for NP school. I am so nervous because obviously starting with a new preceptor is nerve wracking, and I don’t know how I’m going to manage being away from my husband and my animals 😭 but I’m really excited to explore some new places in some of my (hopefully!!) free time!

Literally dreaming of going back to Mt. Rainier as soon as possible! Cant believe I have hardly explored much of the PNW living here my whole life. My goal over the next year is to check out new places in the PNW and get better at hiking and improve my stamina!! I was so proud after doing Skyline Loop. And what a beautiful hike it was, worth every second!! What are some of your can’t miss hikes in Oregon and Washington?
