We haven’t seen our bottom since June, and while I know I need a diet I don’t mean -that- bottom. Since we’re back in salty, corrosive water we scheduled a dive for our arrival at the Wharf with D&R / Prop Mafia. At the Wharf you need to use contractors on their approved list and I would recommend them. We received no discount or anything back for this post outside of our satisfaction in their work.

I worked with Ryan to schedule the dive, explained what we wanted checked (anodes, fins, transducers, running gear, etc), the slime wiped off and pics and / or videos. He let me know the light is tough at the Wharf but they’d do their best.

They arrived during the time when they said they would, at reasonable price for professional work. We know how long they spent under the boat due to cameras we have onboard (we weren’t there). We received the pictures and are satisfied with the quality.

Most importantly we’re happy to report nothing to report.

If you’re heading to the America's Great Loop Cruisers' Association Fall Rendezvous or just passing through, give Ryan at D&R / Prop Mafia a call or text him. 251-747-2265

This video somes up the waterfront in Mobile. Modern, industrial, working. With trains, boats and barges and currently, The SS United States being dismantled to become an offshore reef. I grew up marveling at its presence every time we drove south of Philadelphia where she was docked and deteriorating for 50 years.

Another milestone reach and segment done ✅. Timekess has made it to Orange Beach, Alabama and the Wharf, one day ahead of schedule. We’ll wait here looking firmware to the largest America's Great Loop Cruisers' Association Rendezvous ever with 425 Loopers, dreamers and planners descending on this amazing location in just a week.

We saw dolphins most of the way, which is awesome. I was (just a tiny bit) afraid they might not welcome us back, being gone so long, but it seems like they missed us. The Dolphin Cam is working perfectly!

We had a nice push down the Mobile River and into the bay but a surprising amount of debris in the water. Instead of following the channel we cut across the bay which was plenty deep until we were about 1/2 mile from the ICW where the water shoals, with the Perigean (and recording breaking) King Tides, the low was also exceptional (negative) low. I slowed for the last mile and coasted for nearly the last 1/2 mile with some piker factor and a little more than consternation from Dee about jy choices. But we made it….without touching. And it saved us an hour….

Once we turned back east we fought the last of the very strong Ebb, up to a knot all the way to the Wharf where we’re safely tucked away between the large sport fish boats (of course after the fun of pumping out) filling the water tanks, which weren’t so empty after 6 days with just the two of us onboard and being careful) and then the fun of salt water set back in. Back to our daily rinse downs if the boat 😢

While we’re still in Alabama our last full day outside of our home in FL is done. Our next day will bring us back to our home state with just three cruising weeks left to finish, but we’re taking our time. The two weeks from Orange Beaxh to Clearwater will be new and the last of the new water. From there we’ll spend a week doing what we found in a day and a half, enjoying some of our favorite places from Clearwater to home.
- St Petersburg downtown
- Longboat Key Club (for Thanksgiving)
- Sarasota (and the botanical garden)
- Cayo Costa and lunch at Cabbage Key
- Tween Waters

We can’t hit them all in a week but the area is so much fun and Dee is eager to get home. Timeless won’t get much rest. The following week she’ll head to the yard 2.5-3 day trip) for some serious spa treatment. We have a long list of maintenance to get her ready for her next big trip!

Well that was QUICK. We didn’t even get out of the river and I asked Dee what is that in the water? We’ve had dolphins on the bow for an hour already. It’s not the pretty green / blue water if FL but….still dolphins.

I’m a lot late posting tonight.

Today I mixed rest, sightseeing and maintenance. I started the morning replacing all the pencil zincs on the engines, gears and hydraulic cooler. We’re back in salt water so this is a very good idea. Then took an oil sample from the stb genset, and changed the oil (and oil filter. By now I was late for brunch and Dee was (rightfully) cranky. By the time we got to Runy Slippers it was break time for the large teacher conference in town. Nevertheless the restaurant handled the rush well and we w joyed brunch out.

After Brunch we used MOB Cuty rides ($5 for a golf cart ride around town) to drop us off at the top of Dauphine street and slowly meandered down and back to the boat.

After dropping Dee off I headed out to drop off the oil sample (I forgot the mailing label and mailer at brunch) and then visit the Jimmy Buffet Experience at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf. Unfortunately it’s closed on Tuesdays 😢

Back at the boat I finished the starboard genset service with an impeller change. Since the first one didn’t last 500 hours I’m changing it every 250 ( the same time I change the oil). So far so good with this plan and I don’t have to go searching for blades.

My last job was to see why the batteries were charging so slowly. Since we don’t have shore power here and didn’t run the engines I wanted to make sure the house batteries were charged so I didn’t have to run the genset all night. I tried a few settings on the inverter / charger which seemed to work but then made the disastrous mistake of upgrading the firmware.

Trying to deal with this made me quite late for dinner and experience more ire from Dee. We were over 45 min late to dinner at Dauphin’s which is is best done with some daylight. Which I made us miss. Dinner was excellent with some southern dishes mixed in with traditional favorites.

I’ll talk more about the following in a future post, but only two of our 4 large LiPo4 house batteries are on due to the issue. I may be able to get them working when I grab a spare blue tooth guage at home or it will take the manufacturer sending me a can bus adapter and laptop which they are overnighting. We still have quite a large house bank with just two but I spent a good part of the night working on what would work.

For now I’m running the port genset to exercise it a bit as the the batteries are only about 60% charged. That might last the night but I don’t want to chance it.

The rest of today’s story will be told in the pics.

And that is that. We’ve completed the inland rivers. Nearly 300nm and 5 locks in the last 4 days and we’re in Mobile, Alabama. We haven’t been to a dock, until tonight (we’re at a wall with no power or water), added water or connected to shore power since we left Columbus Marina on Thursday. We haven’t added fuel since Aqua Yacht and we still have well over 1/2 tank. We’ve only run the generator about 10-12 hours total in that time. Our huge house bank and large alternator are working like a treat. We’ll finally be connected back to services mid-day on Wednesday. On Timeless you don’t feel like you’re missing much.

So for the tale of the day…we “slept in” until after 0600 with a plan to be underway at 0700. The three boats anchored last night in Salt Creek hauled anchor in the order they arrived but in quick succession right before 0700. We were underway at 0653 after the anchor came up clean with just 100ft of chain deployed.

With the warmer night (50s instead of mid 40s) there was no river smoke. We quickly passed Blown Income and then not much later we were passed by Long Haul IV. We chugged along at 1000 rpm and in the mid 8 knot range for most of the day, just slowing a few times for a work boat here or there. We were being pushed along at up to 9knots at times but eventually hit the flood in Mobile slowing us to the mid 7s. We ended up averaging 8.4 knots. We covered just under 75nm and ended the day at the Mobile Convention Center wall about -544. Thank you Walkabout for grabbing our lines.

It was a bit cloudier but still continuing the trend of incredible weather. There was more commercial traffic than we saw further north but still not a lot until we got fairly close to Mobile.

Dee took the night off so we (as in her and me) walked into town and let someone else cook, choosing Squid ink. We sat right down at the bar and shared a variety of dishes and enjoyed a bit of tinne off the boat. On the way back to the boat we marveled at the full Hunters Moon.

Tomorrow we WILL sleep in.

Last towboat reel for a while. This is the Anna Francis pushing up the Mobile River

10/26/2026

Lisa Marie pushing upbound, smelled like propane, no idea if it was. Mobile River about 20nm north of Mobile

10/26/2026

Roger Williamson upbound on the Mobile River pushing on the shallow side. Not sure why they didn’t stay further to the outside in deeper water.

10/26/2026

First towboat of the day passing us northbound as we’re stirring to get the day going, pre-coffee. This is in Salt Creek where they’re digging the starboard hard to start the next turn after meeting the dredge America.
