If they streak, chatter, skip or leave a haze, they're done. AAA puts the usual life of a blade at 6 to 12 months.
Sacramento is hard on wipers in a specific way. NOAA's normals for Sacramento Executive Airport show zero inches of rain in a normal July and only 0.04 inches in August. Then October averages 0.85 inches and November 1.66. Your blades bake on the glass all summer, then get asked to work in the first storm.
Streaking. Thin lines of water left behind. The rubber edge is worn or dirty.
Chattering or skipping. The blade hops across the glass. Sun-hardened rubber is the usual cause.
Squeaking. The blade isn't gliding anymore.
Cracks or a torn edge. You can see these when you lift the blade.
A band you can't see through. If it sits right in your line of sight on the 50 at night, replace the blades now.
