1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Roadster

Chassis No. CSX-3131 “Narrow Hip”

One of just 343 original Shelby 427 Cobras, this stunning light blue roadster is an exceptionally rare example of Carroll Shelby’s legendary creation.

Competition bodies were used to build street Cobras, but the wide rear fenders, designed to accommodate 7.5-inch-wider rear tires, looked out of proportion to Carroll Shelby.

Shelby asked AC Cars in England to develop a narrower rear body that more closely resembled the original 289 Cobra. AC Cars produced just 33 “Narrow Hip” bodies for the 427 Cobra.

A few fascinating details:

All CSX-3100 cars featured dual-carburetor 427 engines.

Of the 260 street Cobras produced, 100 were equipped with 428 Police Interceptor engines, which produced less horsepower than the 427.

CSX-3131 is one of only 10 Narrow Hip Cobras remaining in unmodified condition with their original body and drivetrain.

This remarkable Cobra was displayed at the 2025 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Designed by Carroll Shelby, the Series 1 was a rare American sports car built to deliver exceptional performance through lightweight construction, advanced engineering, and V8 power.

* Quarter Mile: 12.8 seconds at 109.9 mph
* Lateral Acceleration: 1.0g
* Top Speed: 185 mph
* Curb Weight: 2,650 lbs.

The Shelby Series 1 was particularly significant as the only automobile Carroll Shelby designed and engineered from the ground up for series production. With just 249 examples built, it remains one of the rarest Shelby production cars.
