Alpina C1 2.3
This beautiful gem of a car being 1 of 35 built came to us for a laundry list of small items, from soft brakes, hunting idle, long crank time, to a sunroof seal, all this was done within just a few days while also finding other issues like a bolt about to back out on the steering rack joint, but something about how the car sounded when it drove in troubled us, it had a small noise from the valve train- similar to a car in need of valve adjustment, when we asked the client when the last valve adjustment was done he mentioned it had been 50miles since it was done, something told us to investigate further and we requested if we could take a look under the valve cover for peace of mind, only to find a camshaft with serious wear, we then embarked on the only way to correctly fix this while retaining the original equipment, made specifically in period for this car- we removed the camshaft, rockers and eccentrics to find them all having signs of brinelling, we sent out the cam to pull a master, get rewelded, ground and polished to the original specs which verified was its own grind, nothing resembling any other grinds in their catalogue like Schrick or similar period upgrades, confirming this was the original Alpina equipment. Once we got our freshly refreshed camshaft we set timing, installed camshaft with upgraded heavy duty rockers for longevity and all new eccentrics, rocker shafts and seals, this car was a very different and interesting driving experience, with a soft but sporty ride, lightweight like a 2002 while sporting a hot roded inline 6 cylinder with long tube headers, definitely the classic BMW formula for the ultimate driving machine!
