Daniel joined us last week and has already been jumping into everything from engine work to diagnostics alongside our experienced technicians. He has a great attitude, works hard, and has been eager to learn the Nelson Performance way.

🚗 Hard Starting? Don't Start Replacing Parts Just Yet.

If your vehicle takes longer than normal to start, don't assume it's just the battery. Hard starting can be caused by several different systems, and replacing parts without testing can get expensive fast.

Some of the most common causes include:

🔋 Weak battery or poor battery cable connections

⛽ Low fuel pressure from a weak fuel pump, leaking fuel pressure regulator, or restricted fuel filter

💨 Leaking fuel injectors allowing fuel pressure to bleed off after shutdown

⚡ Worn spark plugs or failing ignition coils

📡 Failing crankshaft or camshaft position sensors

🌬️ Vacuum leaks creating a lean air/fuel mixture

🌡️ Faulty engine coolant temperature sensor sending incorrect data to the PCM

💨 Dirty MAF sensor or other airflow issues

A **DOD/AFM disabler** keeps your engine operating in V8 mode. It’s an affordable option for a properly running vehicle, but all of the factory DOD lifters and hardware remain inside the engine.

A **complete DOD delete** takes it to the next level! We remove the failure-prone DOD components, replace them with non-DOD parts, and properly tune the vehicle for its new setup. It’s the more complete, long-term solution. 🔧

Here’s the important part: a disabler cannot repair a lifter or mechanical problem that has already started. If your engine is ticking, misfiring, or showing other warning signs, it needs to be diagnosed before deciding which direction to take.

⛽ Should you run premium fuel?

If your truck is tuned by Nelson Performance, we typically recommend premium fuel whenever possible.

💰 You may pay a little more at the pump today...
🚫 But you could save yourself a much bigger headache tomorrow.

Here's why:

🔥 More Performance
Higher octane fuel resists knock, allowing your engine to safely make the power your tune was designed for.

🛡️ Engine Protection
Premium fuel helps reduce detonation (spark knock), protecting pistons, bearings, head gaskets, and other expensive engine components.

⚡ Better Drivability
Higher octane allows the ECM to maintain optimal ignition timing, giving you smoother power delivery and better throttle response.

💵 Worth the Investment
The difference between regular and premium is often only a few dollars per tank.

Compare that to the cost of:

❌ The ECM pulling ignition timing because of lower-octane fuel
