The California Roll is one of those techniques that looks simple once you know it, but takes real practice to get right. Instead of trying to handle a large sheet of film while keeping it from touching itself or the glass prematurely, you roll it onto the wet window in one controlled motion. It keeps the film from creasing, reduces the chance of contamination, and makes large windows way more manageable. This is how we handle big panes on residential jobs - one smooth roll, no drama.

One of the most overlooked parts of a good tint job is the blade. We snap off a fresh segment before almost every window - not because the old one is visibly dull, but because a sharp blade is the difference between a clean cut and a jagged edge that shows. A lot of DIYers and even newer installers try to get too many cuts out of one blade. Trust us, the blades are cheap. Your time and the film are not. Fresh blade, clean cut, every time. That is the standard we hold ourselves to on every job.

This is the part everyone wants to see - the actual application. Wet the glass, peel the liner, position the film, squeegee out the water and bubbles. Sounds simple, but there is real technique in how you hold the film, how you overlap your squeegee passes, and how you handle the edges. Mess up any one of those steps and you are looking at bubbles, lifting corners, or contamination under the film. Knowing what a proper installation looks like helps you ask the right questions when hiring someone.

This is the question we get more than any other: which film should I go with? The honest answer is that it depends on what you are trying to solve. Blocking heat? Reducing glare? Privacy? UV protection? There are films built specifically for each of those goals, and the best one for your home is not necessarily the darkest or the most expensive. We use Solar Gard film on most of our jobs because of how consistent it performs, but the spec matters more than the brand. Come talk to us before you decide - we will help you figure out what you actually need.
