The recent Canadian Fires have severely impacted the quality of air in the Chicagoland area, your vehicle may also be impacted. The microscopic ash, soot, and fine particulate matter quickly clog the filter, which restricts airflow to your air conditioning and forces the system to push smoky air into your cabin.
When it comes to your vehicle, here are a few suggestions to consider:
1. Switch to Recirculation: Keep your windows tightly closed and immediately set your car's climate control to the recirculation mode (often indicated by a curved arrow symbol inside a car). This stops your car from continually pulling in polluted outside air.
2. Inspect and Replace: Once the air quality clears, it is highly recommended to check your cabin air filter. If it looks dark, grey, or smells like smoke, replace it immediately.
3. Check the Engine Filter: The smoke and debris can also impact your engine air filter, so it’s wise to have your vehicle inspected.
