There’s a very specific moment when you drive a taller vehicle into a parking garage and suddenly become deeply invested in one number on one sign. Anyone else duck their head instinctively even though that helps absolutely nothing?

It’s National Teen Driver Safety Week, a good reminder that new-driver safety is built through repetition, conversation and practice (not one big lecture). Talk about distractions, passengers, nighttime driving, speed and what to do when something feels wrong with the car.

The Fauntleroy Fall Festival is today, and we love seeing one of West Seattle’s longtime neighborhood traditions bring everyone together. If you’re heading out for the music, food and fall fun, enjoy the afternoon—and maybe allow a few extra minutes for the neighborhood parking puzzle.

Electric and hybrid vehicles use regenerative braking, which means the traditional friction brakes do less of the everyday stopping work. That can reduce wear, but it doesn’t mean you can completely ignore your car's brake system. Rotors, pads, calipers and brake fluid still need appropriate inspection and service. Less use is not the same thing as no maintenance.

Tomorrow is the second Thursday of the month, which means West Seattle Art Walk is back. It’s one of our favorite reminders that this neighborhood is at its best when people get out, wander around, support local businesses and see what their neighbors are creating. Have fun out there, West Seattle.

Fall leaves are starting to show up—and your car has a few places they really don’t belong. Leaves and debris can collect along the base of the windshield and around drainage areas, trapping moisture and slowing water flow. A quick visual check when you’re clearing off the car is an easy seasonal habit.
