Great news! We got the go-ahead from Josephine County Parks for the lake cleanup 🎉 It’s set for June16th at 10 a.m., rain or shine (things move slower on weekdays). Huge thanks to everyone willing to volunteer.

From the County: Volunteers will toss in racks to cut and pull weeds, then gather them on shore for disposal. Interestingly, one recommendation is to drag an old mattress bed spring behind a boat to help pull weeds from the roots.

If you can donate your time—and maybe a motorboat or old spring mattress—please let us know ASAP so we can get everything organized. A volunteer form will need to be filled out, and a late lunch will be provided by the resort.

Since Vince asked me to reach out to our Southern Oregon friends about cleaning up Lake Selmac we’ve had an incredible response from people eager to help. It’s truly heartwarming, with so many offering their time and even their equipment. As soon as we hear back from Lake Selmac Parks, we’ll share the date for the cleanup. Thanks again to everyone!

It’s our understanding that Josephine County has the equipment to cut the weeds in the lake, but we’ll need as many volunteers as possible to get the job done. We’re looking for folks with boats, people willing to scoop weeds from the shoreline, and those with trailers who can help haul them away. The weeds are said to make great fertilizer, so let us know if you’d like some. Once we know how many people we can gather, we’ll set a date. Thanks!
