Tim's Trim Shop

Tim's Trim Shop I am slowing down now, easing myself into retirement. I am cutting back on the load of work. Give me a call and we can see what you need.

This odyssey began 40 yrs ago come August when Terry Miller was going off to scholl i the Fall and recommended me to replace him at Seymour Glass. Several years there, 5-6 years working for Covers Unlimited in Jeffersonville IN, some time at the Awning Guy in Seymour and then my own shop. The idea for my own shop was a sort of "retirement" job but that seems to have worked out to be a real honest

to goodness business. Well, I guess I'm too old to retrain so this is it.Hot Rods and boat interiors, boat covers, seat repair, headliners, carpets, convertible tops, etc etc.

Just looked at the calendar. 54 years ago today I started this journey. Wow!

In case you missed the video I better clarify. I have "officially" retired BUT I don't think I can cold turkey anything so my plan is to be in the shop a couple days a week to get used to the idea. Hard to forget 54 years doing this. Most have my number and if you see my van next to the shop I'm there. I just don't want to be nailed down with regular hours anymore. My number is still on the sign and if I'm not there, give me a call and we can figure it out. Thanks

Usually this day I give my Christmas Greeting and Wishes. Little different this year since it will be the last , at least concerning the shop.I knew last Christmas Eve this day would come. So first things first. For all the customers, thank you for your business this past year. AND let's remember why we celebrate this day and tomorrow. We celebrate the birth of the Son of Man, sent by is Father to save the World.
I made a small video explaining the future of the shop and I guess my future too.

Since we are coming down to the end of the year , I really need any work still in the shop and finished to be picked up. I need to start closing the books for 2024. Thanks in advance.

Stories from my past in the trim shop. Maybe not much fun but one of the jobs I sorta took to back in the day was cars that were involved in a su***de or murder. Today they would likely just total the vehicle but back then they paid us to save them. I certainly will not name names on the topic either. We would do whatever it took to make the car/truck like new again and generally they were sent out of town to the auction block. Being the "apprentice" I was usually relegated to the cleaning end of the job while the other trimmers(usually George) inserted the seats (cloth seats) or maybe put in a new headliner. (shotgun blasts tear hell out of everything). I would take the carpets out and wash them in the parking lot with a hose and brush. No pressure washers back then. Not quite as bad as a "death car" was the fire damaged cars. It happened now and then, a car catches ablaze from an electrical issue or fuel issue, you clean and repair upholstery. Actually fire smell was the worst to cover or kill. Times change and I grew older and about 30 years ago I was asked to take on a su***de car rescue. I declined. Just some things I did not need to involve myself in anymore.

Feeling a little nostalgic this morning as I begin the wind down on my career. Putting a seat back together and it dawns on me that the can I keep hog rings in is an old Folgers can I painted the second day of my career in August 1971. Those old beaten hog ring pliers are my first and only ones I have owned , again bought in August 1971. Those are my original scissors too. I think back then a set of Wiss shears was something like 30 bucks, a third of my weeks wages.Today they are well North of 100 bucks.
That magazine cover ? Second month on the job they came to do a piece on Seymour Glass (the trim shop, Hence "Trim Shop News") and somehow I ended up on the cover. 18 years old, green as grass about the trade and I end up on the cover. That went well with the older trimmers I tell you ! A lot of stories in 53 + years. Maybe I'll tell some as I work toward the end.

This might gussy up an old truck a little.
