One year ago I started Peck N Pull Auto with one simple rule: don't charge people for parts they don't need.
Ever since my last video, I've had hundreds of comments telling me I should replace every part "while I'm already in there."
I understand the logic.
But here's how I look at it...
It's not my money. It's my customer's money.
If I can't prove a part has failed, I'm not comfortable charging someone to replace it just because it's convenient.
Sometimes fixing one verified failure reveals another issue. That's not guessing. That's how diagnostics work.
I'd rather build trust than build invoices.
Would you rather have a mechanic who replaces everything "just in case," or one who only charges you for what the vehicle actually needs?
⬇️ Let's hear your thoughts.

I bought this jump pack because I wanted to make affiliate videos... but I'm not risking my reputation for a commission.
Anybody can recommend a product after opening the box. I'd rather use it the same way I use every other tool in my truck before I tell someone else to spend their money on it.
Over the next few weeks, this jump pack is going to be tested on real customer vehicles during real service calls. No staged tests. No cherry-picked results.
If it fails, you'll see it.
If it earns a permanent spot in my truck, you'll see that too.
If you're already in the market for a budget-friendly jump pack, I'll leave the link below because the price is honestly hard to ignore. But don't buy it just because of this video. Wait and see if it proves itself first.
This is Day 1. Let's find out if it's actually worth recommending. πŸ‘€πŸ”‹

Why do mechanics charge diagnostic fees? This Malibu is the perfect example.

This vehicle originally came to me with a leaking water pump, so I replaced it. After the repair, it overheated again.
I returned to diagnose the issue and all signs pointed toward a faulty thermostat. I replaced the thermostat, thoroughly bled the cooling system, and completed a successful test drive.

Just before calling the customer to pick up the vehicle, I took it on one final road test... and it overheated again.
Since then, I've performed multiple cooling system tests, checked coolant circulation, pressure tested the system, verified operation, and completed several additional test drives.

This is why a proper diagnosis is so important. The goal isn't to throw parts at a vehicle and hope for the best. It's to systematically test, verify, and eliminate possibilities until the root cause is identified.

That's what a diagnostic fee pays for: time, experience, and a methodical approach that ultimately saves customers money by avoiding unnecessary repairs.

Today's repair should've taken about an hour...
Instead, I spent most of my time driving between parts stores because the "correct" gasket kept being wrong.
This is the stuff customers never see.
What's the most trips you've ever made for one repair?

Another happy customer back on the road! βœ…
This Honda Odyssey came in with a completely worn-out motor mount that was causing excessive engine movement and vibration.
A new rear engine mount made a big difference, and it's ready to keep rolling.

65 days until Summernats.
Another step closer.
Got the new wideband in so I can get back to tuning with the ACES Fuel Injection Jackpot 2. Hopefully it's one less thing standing between Shell Shocked and the track.
The Brian Tooley Racing valvetrain has taken every bit of abuse I've thrown at it so far... now it's my job to get the tune right.
Think we'll make it? πŸ‘‡

I never realized how much time I was wasting... until I finally fixed this. πŸ˜‚
It's funny how the little things can make working every day so much easier.
If you're constantly digging for sockets like I was, these might be worth checking out. What's one tool you bought that made you wonder why you waited so long? πŸ‘‡

I know this one is going to upset a few mechanics... πŸ˜‚
Before you tell me I'm wrong, hear me out.
As a mobile mechanic, I've built my business around making smart business decisions, not buying the most expensive tools. For the way I work, Harbor Freight has made me more money than Snap-on ever would've.
What's your hottest mechanic opinion? πŸ‘‡

The biggest thing holding most people back isn't money... it's believing they need everything before they start.
A year ago, my business fit in one old tool bag. Every customer helped me buy the next tool, and every new tool opened the door to bigger opportunities.
You don't have to have it all figured out.
Start with what you have.
