👋 Staff Spotlight: Makayla Nieman

Makayla is back for her 2nd summer at SBC as a counselor, and she’s excited for another season of watching God work in the lives of campers and staff alike. ☀️💙

A few fun facts about Makayla:
⭐ Favorite verses: Psalm 139:9-12 and Colossians 3:17
📍 From: Hudson, MI
🎓 College sophomore this fall

If Makayla could be any camp activity, she’d be Tire Wars because “I might seem a little hesitant at first, but once you get to know me, I’m super fun and competitive.” 😂🛞

Camp has had a big impact on Makayla’s faith journey. She shared that camp has taught her to be more intentional in her walk with God and reminded her that her relationship with Him should be at the center of everything she does. ✨

Her encouragement for first-time campers:
“It’s okay if you don’t know anyone or have everything figured out — that’s the point of camp! I promise you’ll make new friends, learn more about God, and have a lot of fun in the process.”

One of Makayla’s favorite SBC memories is her very first Grammys Night. 🎤🎶

Family Camp is a special time at Somerset Beach Campground to gather, worship, reconnect, and grow together. Join us July 10–16 as we focus on our 2026 theme, Onward.

In a busy world, we’ll fix our eyes on Christ and move forward in the purpose He has for us through worship, teaching, fellowship, and time in His presence.

Each day includes activities for all ages, plus evening gatherings under the Big Tent as one community.

At SBC, family includes everyone. Whether for a day, a weekend, or the full week, you belong here.

If you see some extra smiles coming from the kitchen this summer, there’s a good chance Addisan is nearby! 🍴

As a first-year summer staff member, Addisan is excited to meet new people, serve at camp, and make lots of new memories along the way.

There’s something special about families coming together at Somerset Beach Campground. Recently, we welcomed two multigenerational families to Applewood Lodge where grandparents, parents, children, and grandchildren gathered to reconnect, rest, and make memories.

In a busy world, these moments are more meaningful than ever. Whether around meals, at the lake, or in the lodge, time together creates lasting connection across generations.

We are grateful to be a place where families strengthen relationships and build lasting memories. We look forward to welcoming more families this summer.

👋 Staff Spotlight: Cyleigh-Anne Young

Cyleigh-Anne is returning for another summer at SBC and this year as a camp counselor. She’s excited to help create meaningful experiences for campers just like the ones that impacted her growing up at camp.

A few fun facts about Cyleigh-Anne:
⭐ Favorite verse: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
📍 From: Liberty Township, MI
🎓 Attending Jackson College

If Cyleigh-Anne could be any camp activity, she’d be the mud pit because “although life can be messy, it can also be fun.” 😂🛞

This summer, she’s excited to help campers grow in their faith and experience the same joy and connection she found at camp herself. She also shared that she’s praying for wisdom to help lead kids in the right direction throughout the summer. ✨

Her advice for first-time campers:
“Try everything!”

Lilly is joining SBC for her very first summer as a lifeguard, and she’s excited for a summer full of new experiences, meaningful friendships, and growing deeper in her faith. ☀️💙

If Lilly could be any camp activity, she’d choose movie night because she loves movies, popcorn, and spending time with friends. 🍿🎬

Maddie is joining the SBC team for her very first summer as our Welcome Center Coordinator! ☀️ She’s excited to help create a welcoming space for campers, families, and staff all summer long.

A few fun facts about Maddie:

📍 From: Horton, MI
🎓 Attending Spring Arbor University

If Maddie could be any camp activity, she’d be a campfire 🔥 because while it may not be the loudest thing at camp, it helps people feel comfortable, included, and connected.

This summer, Maddie is most excited for all the random chaos, inside jokes, and deep conversations that make camp so memorable. She’s also praying for meaningful moments and strong faith memories for campers throughout the summer. 💙

Her advice for first-time campers:
“Say yes to things you normally wouldn’t do.”

One of Maddie’s favorite SBC memories is staff bonding time at Addie and Keaton’s house — proof that some of the best camp memories happen outside the schedule too. ✨
