๐จ SMOKING SATURDAY ๐จ
No, the car isnโt on fireโฆ weโre hunting boost leaks. ๐๐จ
A pressurized smoke test is one of the best ways to track down boost and vacuum leaks that can be difficult to find during a normal visual inspection.
By introducing smoke into the system under controlled pressure, we can actually see where air is escaping โ whether itโs coming from a fitting, gasket, hose, coupler, intake component, or another sealing surface.
Even a small leak can cause:
๐จ Loss of boost / low boost
๐ Reduced performance
โ ๏ธ Lean or rich conditions
๐ Rough idle or drivability issues
๐ Incorrect fuel trims
๐ Slow spool or inconsistent boost
โ ๏ธ Check-engine lights
๐ฅ Tuning inconsistencies
And as you can see in these picturesโฆ the smoke doesnโt lie. ๐
Before tuning a modified turbocharged vehicle, making sure the intake, boost, and vacuum systems are properly sealed is extremely important. You canโt expect a tuner to dial in a vehicle correctly when metered air is entering or escaping where it shouldnโt.
At Low Boost Performance, we use a pressurized smoke testing system to help locate leaks and make sure the vehicle is mechanically ready before we start chasing problems through the tune.
Find the leak. Fix the leak. THEN make boost. ๐จ๐ฅ
