This is a fuel sample taken today. Equal parts water and equal parts regular unleaded fuel pumped from a reputable station both times

Using fuel with too much ethanol can seriously damage your engine and fuel system. Ethanol absorbs water and is more corrosive than gasoline, especially in vehicles not designed for high-ethanol blends.

Main Problems Caused by Excess Ethanol
1. Corrosion and Fuel System Damage
Ethanol absorbs moisture, which can rust metal parts in the fuel system.
It can also dry out or swell rubber hoses, seals, and plastic components, leading to fuel leaks and expensive repairs.

2. Phase Separation
If ethanol fuel sits too long, the ethanol and absorbed water can separate from the gasoline.
This creates a corrosive water-ethanol layer at the bottom of the tank that can cause stalling, flooding, or engine damage.

3. Lower Fuel Mileage
Ethanol contains less energy than gasoline.
Higher ethanol blends reduce MPG and engine performance. Even E10 can lower
fuel economy by 3% to 5%.

4. Lean Running and Misfires
Too much ethanol changes the air/fuel mixture.
Older vehicles and small engines may not adjust properly, causing:
Hard starting
Rough idle
Hesitation during acceleration
Misfires and check engine lights

In short: unless your vehicle is designed for higher ethanol blends like E85, excess ethanol can reduce performance and lead to costly engine and fuel system damage.
