2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 – P0011 Code | Intake Camshaft Phaser Repair
A 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 came to VCNG Auto Repair in Springfield, Virginia, with the Check Engine Light illuminated, even though the vehicle appeared to be running normally.
During our diagnostic inspection, we identified trouble code P0011 – Intake Camshaft Position Timing Over-Advanced (Bank 1), indicating a problem with the engine’s variable camshaft timing system.
After performing the necessary tests and inspecting the components, we discovered an internal blockage in the camshaft phaser caused by broken fragments from a metal filter screen inside the camshaft actuator. These fragments obstructed the internal oil passages, preventing the timing mechanism from adjusting properly.
To address the root cause, we replaced the affected intake camshaft assembly and camshaft timing adjustment mechanism. We also inspected the system for debris, verified the engine timing, and performed diagnostic checks to confirm proper operation.
This case demonstrates why accurate engine diagnostics are essential. A vehicle can appear to run normally while an underlying mechanical problem remains undetected.
