How it all started.
Projects like this are worth looking back on from a different angle.

From the earliest stages of construction through the structural work, custom fabrication, marine carpentry, paint, and finish details, every part of this build came together with one goal in mind, creating a boat that looked, felt, and performed exactly the way it should.

Seeing the progression from raw construction to the finished 49' is a reminder of just how much craftsmanship goes into a true custom build.

Every stage had a purpose.

Every detail had a reason.

And in the end, it all came together into one incredible finished boat.

Sometimes the best way to explain what we do is simply to show it.

From where a project begins to where it ends, every transformation at Highground Boatworks is built on craftsmanship, experience, and an uncompromising attention to detail.

Restoration isn’t just about making something look new again. It’s about seeing what a boat can become, understanding what needs to happen beneath the surface, and executing every stage with purpose, from structural work and fabrication to carpentry, paint, fit and finish.

The before tells you where we started.
The after shows you what’s possible.
Whether it’s a complete restoration, major refit, custom fabrication, or the details that bring an entire project together, we take pride in doing the work the right way.

This 2022 36' OBX out of North Carolina came to us partially constructed, with no plans and very little information to work from.

So we traveled to North Carolina, brought her back to our shop in Stuart, Florida, and started giving her the full Highground treatment.

The project includes complete interior cabinetry and exterior joinery, full paint, structural fiberglass work, motors, shafts, struts and rudders, along with fuel, water and vessel systems installation.

We’ve also handled tower modifications, upper control box fabrication, and the installation of the tower, hardtop and buggy top.

She’s still under construction here at the shop, but the transformation is already well underway, and she’s looking stellar.

Projects like this are exactly where experience, problem-solving and attention to detail matter most. When you’re handed an incomplete boat without a roadmap, every decision has to be made with the finished vessel in mind.

There’s still more to come on this one.

At Highground Boatworks, the finish work, the fit, the fabrication, and the small touches all matter because they’re what separate a good job from a great one.

Whether it’s custom teak, paint, electronics, fiberglass, carpentry, hardware, restoration work, or one-off fabrication, we approach every project with the same mindset: do it right, make it fit, and make it look like it belongs there.

The best work is often found in the things most people never stop to notice, a clean edge, a precise fit, a seamless finish, a piece that looks like it was always meant to be part of the boat.

That attention to detail is what we take pride in.

From full restorations and refits to custom fabrication and finish work, every project gets the same level of care.

A fun one from the shop, because sometimes the best way to appreciate the details is to get out on the water and enjoy them.

From custom woodwork and finishes to the overall fit, function and feel of the boat, this is what all the time in the shop is ultimately about.

Built to be used. Built to be enjoyed.
