Tesla inspection vs. Tesla diagnostic — which appointment do you actually need? 👀⚡️

At EV+ Auto Repair, we offer two different types of Tesla appointments, and they’re meant for different concerns:

🔧 FREE 1-Hour Inspection
Best for mechanical or visual concerns like suspension noises, clicking or creaking, A/C, coolant or radiator issues, 12V battery concerns, and certain drive unit symptoms. We can inspect underneath the vehicle, put it on the lift when needed, and test drive it with you to help locate the problem.

💻 Tesla Diagnostic & Error Code Testing
Seeing red or orange alerts on your Tesla screen? Electrical problems, modules, high-voltage battery concerns, drive unit faults, and other issues that require us to access the software side of the vehicle may require a more advanced diagnostic using Tesla Toolbox.

Diagnostic appointments have a separate fee, and we may need to keep your Tesla for up to 48 hours depending on the concern.

Sometimes you may need one appointment — and sometimes diagnosing the problem requires a combination of both.

Do Teslas need maintenance? Yes — just not the same maintenance as a gas car. 👀⚡️

Teslas don’t need traditional engine oil changes, but that doesn’t mean they’re maintenance-free.

At EV+ Auto Repair, some of the most common Tesla maintenance and repair items we see include radiator cleaning, cabin air filters, 12V battery replacement, suspension and control arm issues, A/C and cooling system concerns, and drive unit service.

🚗 Hearing creaking when you turn or go over bumps? Get your suspension inspected.

🔋 Older 12V battery? Don’t wait until you’re unexpectedly dealing with a dead low-voltage battery. Change it every 3-4 years.

❄️ Never had your radiator cleaned? Dirt, leaves, bugs and road debris can accumulate and restrict airflow through the cooling stack.

⚙️ Higher-mileage Tesla? Ask us about drive unit fluid service — and follow along because we’re currently having used Tesla drive unit fluid samples analyzed by a third-party lab. 🔬

Have you ever seen the famous Tesla Supermanifold up close? 👀⚡️

This Tesla came to EV+ Auto Repair with a severe coolant leak caused by a damaged coolant pipe. After the thermal system was operating without proper coolant for an extended period, the Supermanifold required replacement.

This repair involved recovering the A/C refrigerant, removing the thermal system assembly, disconnecting coolant lines and electrical connections, replacing the Supermanifold, and carefully reinstalling the entire assembly.

Once everything was back in place, we evacuated and recharged the A/C system.

Tesla’s thermal management system plays a major role in managing temperatures throughout the vehicle, so coolant leaks and thermal system issues should be properly diagnosed and repaired.

Replying to Can you show us what NEW Tesla drive unit oil looks like? 👀⚡️

After our recent video showing the dark fluid we removed from a Tesla drive unit, we received this question—and the difference is pretty dramatic.

This is fresh, clean gearbox fluid used for the appropriate Tesla drive-unit service, compared with the much darker fluid we removed from a higher-mileage vehicle. Tesla specifies different approved gearbox fluids depending on the drive-unit and model year, so it’s important to use the correct fluid for the specific vehicle.

We also use the appropriate drive-unit oil filter as part of applicable service procedures. Tesla’s service information includes procedures for replacing drive-unit oil filters and servicing gearbox fluid.

We are not recommending this as a one-size-fits-all service or telling owners to service their drive units before warranty coverage ends. Every Tesla, drive unit, mileage range, and service history can be different.

What is actually inside your Tesla’s drive unit oil after 100,000 miles? 👀⚡️

We collected multiple Tesla drive unit fluid samples from vehicles with significant mileage, and some of the fluid was extremely dark.

Instead of just guessing why, we’re sending these samples to a third-party laboratory for testing to find out what’s actually inside the fluid and what may be causing it to become so dark.

Could the material inside the fluid tell us something about what’s happening inside the drive unit? And could regular drive unit fluid service help with long-term maintenance? We’re going to find out.

This Tesla Model Y took a hit down the entire front passenger side. 😳

The front door, fender, bumper, mirror, and molding were all damaged. After the insurance claim was approved, we disassembled the vehicle, assessed each panel, ordered the necessary parts, and got to work.

From bodywork and paint matching to reassembly, sanding, buffing, and final adjustments, we brought this Model Y back to a clean, factory-quality finish.
