Is your gear juicing up, or just sitting there pretending?
Are your marine batteries holding a charge, or are you one anchor drop away from being stranded on the water?

A dead house or starting battery ruins a day on the boat faster than a sudden squall. Before you push off this weekend, take 5 minutes to verify your charging system and battery health:

•Check the Onboard Charger Output: Plug in your shore power or run the engine, then check your battery charger’s status lights or use a digital multimeter. A healthy 12V marine battery should show an increasing voltage climbing toward 13.6V to 14.4V while actively charging.

•Inspect Terminals for Marine Corrosion: Saltwater and humidity wreak havoc on connections. Clean away any white or blue powdery buildup on the posts and cable lugs to ensure full current flow.

•Perform a Resting Voltage Check: Let the batteries sit disconnected for a few hours after a full charge. A healthy 12V lead-acid or AGM marine battery should rest right around 12.6V to 12.7V. Anything below 12.2V means it's struggling to hold capacity.

•Test Under Load: Hook up your LiveWell's, trolling motor, or electronics. If the voltage plunges instantly under load, your battery's internal resistance is shot and it's time for a replacement.
Don't wait until your miles offshore to find out your setup is dead in the water!
