MILESTONES IN MOTION, PART 2: AND SO, THE JOURNEY BEGAN!

Every remarkable automobile has a story. In October 2024, The JBS Collection launched a new way to tell those stories.

The premiere of The Journey, our original automotive video series, brought together owner Jack Boyd Smith Jr. and longtime restoration partner Travis LaVine—of LaVine Restorations, Inc.—for an inside look at the history, craftsmanship, and extraordinary dedication behind some of The JBS Collection's most significant automobiles and restorations.

The inaugural episode featured the fascinating story of Arctic explorer Louise Arner Boyd and her magnificent 1934 Packard Twelve Custom Convertible Sedan by Dietrich.

More than a vehicle showcase, The Journey opened a window into the people, discoveries, and painstaking work that make automotive preservation so rewarding—and so central to Jack's passion for collecting, preserving, and celebrating automotive history, design, and craftsmanship.

One episode became a series, and—as we prepare for the 2027 release of Season 3 of The Journey—the stories keep getting better!

The automobiles are extraordinary, and the milestones have been unforgettable. Follow our “Milestones in Motion” series as we revisit the moments, events, and achievements that define The JBS Collection's ongoing pursuit of automotive excellence!

MILESTONES IN MOTION, PART 1: A PLACE IN AMERICAN HISTORY!

Some automobiles win trophies. Others earn a permanent place in the nation's historical record.

Earlier this week, we shared how Amelia Earhart's remarkable legacy continues to make headlines—and how her extraordinary 1937 Cord 812 Phaeton Convertible, now part of The JBS Collection, remains a tangible connection to the pioneering aviator's life.

But this remarkable automobile has another story worth celebrating!

In 2023, Earhart's Cord became just the 33rd vehicle inducted into the National Historic Vehicle Register, earning a permanent place in the nation's automotive history.

That September, the Cord—beautifully restored by our friends at LaVine Restorations, Inc.—was displayed under glass on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., as part of the Hagerty Drivers Foundation's Cars at the Capital exhibition.

For The JBS Collection owner Jack Boyd Smith Jr., restoration partner Travis LaVine, and the entire team at LaVine Restorations, the induction was an extraordinary honor and an unforgettable tribute to preservation, craftsmanship, and American history.

From Amelia Earhart's personal automobile to a nationally recognized historic treasure, this Cord's journey is one we're incredibly proud to be part of. And what better way to launch our new weekly series, Milestones in Motion, than by celebrating this remarkable achievement?

Join us each week as we revisit the moments, events, and achievements that define The JBS Collection's mission of sharing and promoting automotive excellence!

The JBS Collection's 1936 Packard 1407 Twelve is one of only a few of the 682 Twelves produced in 1936 to be sent off for custom coachwork. This exquisite All-Weather Cabriolet, one of only two its kind known to exist, was delivered into the hands of the legendary coachbuilder, LeBaron Incorporated.

This magnificent and historic Packard—originally owned by Charlie Chaplin, and featured in notable Hollywood productions—received an Honorable Mention Award (Class C: Pre-war American Classics) at the 2025 Salon Privé Concours at Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England!

AMELIA EARHART'S MYSTERY CONTINUES. HER AUTOMOTIVE LEGACY LIVES ON.

Nearly 90 years after Amelia Earhart vanished over the Pacific Ocean, the world is still searching for answers.

Today, the legendary aviator made headlines again following a new expedition to the remote island of Nikumaroro. Although researchers participating in a Purdue University-backed expedition ruled out a promising lead in the search for her missing Lockheed Electra, the mystery surrounding her final flight remains unsolved.

But while Earhart's airplane has never been found, another remarkable piece of her history has survived.

Her 1937 Cord 812 Phaeton Convertible.

Purchased new by Earhart, this extraordinary automobile, now part of The JBS Collection, is currently on public display at the Savoy Automobile Museum in Cartersville, Georgia.

Meticulously restored by The JBS Collection in collaboration with LaVine Restorations, Inc. of Nappanee, Indiana, the automobile—in a momentous occasion for owner Jack Boyd Smith Jr.—was inducted into the prestigious National Historic Vehicle Register in 2023. Today, visitors can experience this remarkable piece of American history as part of Savoy's National Treasures exhibition, on display through December 6, 2026.

The search for answers about Amelia Earhart's final flight continues. But her spirit of innovation, adventure, and determination lives on in the machines she loved.

And one of them is waiting to be discovered at the Savoy!

Before woodgrain decals, there was the real thing.

With its beautifully varnished mahogany panels and contrasting ash framing, The JBS Collection's magnificent 1947 Chrysler New Yorker Town & Country represents an era when automotive luxury was as much about craftsmanship as engineering.

One of the last generations of American automobiles to feature genuine wood bodywork, this extraordinary Chrysler is a stunning example of the artistry that made the Town & Country an icon of postwar motoring.

ELEGANCE THAT NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE.

Few automobiles capture the sophistication and craftsmanship of prewar American motoring quite like this Packard Eight.

With its sweeping lines, distinctive open fenders, and beautifully appointed convertible body, this 1934 Packard Eight 1101 Series Convertible Sedan embodies an era when luxury was as much about artistry as engineering.

Part of The JBS Collection, this exceptional automobile is a striking reminder of why Packard—a favorite marque of our owner, Jack Boyd Smith Jr.—remains one of the most celebrated names in automotive history.

In 2021, with our partners at LaVine Restorations, Inc., we began restoring this 1933 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron Dual Cowl Phaeton, one of less than 20 of its kind still in existence.

Our restored "Imperial 8" LeBaron debuted at the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where it received a Second in Class Award. The Imperial 8 went on to win Best in Class (American Classics 1931-1932) at the 2023 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, and First Prize (Pre-War High Speed Luxury) at the 2023 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Lake Como, Italy.

More recently, the Imperial 8 was awarded Second Place in the 'Best Pre-1940 American Coachbuilt Car' category at the 2024 Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace, in the London borough of Richmond upon Thames, and was featured in Season 1, Episode 5 of our automotive series, "The Journey."

A true head turner.

The 1931 8 Litre Bentley is 1 of just 100 ever made and a standout part of the JBS Collection. On display in the paddock at Silverstone, it certainly caught a few eyes.

Jack and Stuart take a closer look at this remarkable piece of motoring history in our BRDC Classic film.
