Since my race Ducati went through a full restoration/race build last winter, I didn’t have to do much this winter to prepare for the upcoming 2018 race season. So, I turned my attention to building another race motor from a partly assembled 1992 Ducati 750SS engine I bought a few years ago.
I stripped the engine and split the cases. To my surprise, the 26 y.o. engine looked like new inside. I purchased a Ferracci Hi-Compression piston set and sent the cylinders to get re-Nickasil coating. Then the heads were ported and polished and shipped to Canada to have J Precision install four new AV&V Stainless Steel tulip valves, four new valve seats and guides and a CNC valve seat cut.
The crankshaft was sent to Colorado to have Fox Performance Engines for Stage 2 Crank Service. It will be lightened, have a knife edge cut and balance. I still have to do a Rattle Can Pro paint job, using Eastwood 2K Gloss Black Ceramic Epoxy Hi-Temp engine paint, on the heads, cylinders and covers and she’ll be ready for re-assembly. The clutch assembly still looks new so it doesn’t need any additional work. I also purchased a Ducati Corse 13oz alternator for the project and Ducati 900SS camshaft set which has 3mm more lift.
I love race motor builds. This is going to be my “A” Race Motor when done and the one in the bike will get some well deserved rest.
I’ll post more when the assemble starts..
