🏁 Happy Birthday, Ken Miles! 🇬🇧

Born November 1, 1918, Ken Miles was far more than just a talented race car driver. He was a brilliant engineer, test driver, and one of the driving forces behind Shelby American’s success.

From helping develop the legendary Cobra and GT350 to winning Daytona and Sebring in 1966, Miles played a critical role in Ford’s historic victory at Le Mans.

Known for his sharp wit, fearless driving, and incredible mechanical knowledge, Ken wasn’t always the easiest man to work with—but he was often the fastest man on the track.

108 years after his birth, his legacy is still running wide open.

Happy Birthday, Ken. A true Shelby American legend. 🏁

🎃 THE SCARIEST THINGS ON FOUR WHEELS WORE A SHELBY BADGE! 🐍

Long before traction control, launch control, and modern driver aids, Carroll Shelby was building cars that could scare even the bravest drivers.

427 Cobras. GT350s. Big-horsepower and absolutely no room for mistakes.

These cars didn’t need Halloween to be frightening. They were terrifying all year long.

Happy Halloween from the Shelby American Automobile Club! 🎃

CARROLL SHELBY KNEW A THING OR TWO ABOUT MARKETING! 😎 🐍

In June 1963, Carroll Shelby handed Steve McQueen the keys to a brand-new 289 Cobra.

The car was Vineyard Green and McQueen was free to enjoy it on the streets of Southern California.

Shelby had a pretty good idea: Put one of Hollywood’s biggest stars behind the wheel of a Cobra and let the publicity do the rest!

McQueen drove the car for several weeks, but surprisingly, he never purchased it.

The Cobra eventually made its way back to Shelby American.

🏁 ON THIS DAY IN SHELBY HISTORY — OCTOBER 26, 1967

59 years ago today, an era was coming to an end at Shelby American.

On October 26, 1967, the final two 1967 Shelby Mustangs were completed at Shelby American’s Los Angeles facility.

Those cars were GT500s, serial numbers #3210 and #3223.

The 1967 model year marked the end of an incredible chapter. These were the last model-year Shelby Mustangs built at the legendary LAX facility before production moved to A.O. Smith in Michigan for 1968.

From the original GT350 to the mighty 428-powered GT500, Shelby American had transformed the Mustang into a piece of American history .

🐍 THE MOST FAMOUS SHELBY THAT NOBODY CAN FIND! 🎸🎶🤟🏼

In 1967, Jim Morrison, legendary frontman of The Doors, became the owner of a Nightmist Blue Shelby GT500.

Nicknamed “The Blue Lady,” the car featured a 428 Police Interceptor V8, four-speed transmission, parchment interior, and the distinctive inboard driving lights.

Then it seemingly vanished.

For decades, rumors suggested the car had been wrecked and destroyed. But old classified advertisements have raised an intriguing possibility: Morrison’s Shelby may have survived into the 1970s.

Nearly 60 years later, its ultimate fate remains a mystery.

Could one of the most famous missing Shelbys still be sitting in a garage somewhere?!
Does anyone remember seeing this car, know its history, or have information that might help solve the mystery? Let’s hear your thoughts ‼️👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

ON THIS DAY IN SHELBY HISTORY — OCTOBER 15, 1966

60 years ago today, one of Shelby American’s legendary 427 Competition Cobras, chassis CSX3011, arrived in Laredo, Texas, destined for Mexican Formula One driver Moisés Solana.

Just four days earlier, Shelby American had invoiced Solana $11,393 for the Cobra, transportation, and additional racing equipment.

Solana specified a dry-sump oiling system, Koni shocks, and shoulder harnesses for his new competition machine.

Unlike the street-going 427 Cobras, these cars were built with one purpose in mind — racing.

Imagine taking delivery of a factory 427 Competition Cobra in 1966!

Congrats. Allen.

DID YOU KNOW SHELBY ALMOST BUILT A GT350S?

In 1966, Shelby American was experimenting with something a little more aggressive than the standard GT350.

Meet 6S051, the one and only factory-built GT350S.

Finished in Ivy Green Metallic, it was the first 1965-bodied Shelby Mustang painted a color other than Wimbledon White.

But the real surprise was under the hood.

A Paxton-supercharged 289 producing a reported 406 horsepower!

Shelby American originally considered making the supercharged GT350S its own model. Instead, the company offered the Paxton supercharger as an option, leaving 6S051 as the only GT350 ever to wear the GT350S designation.

And here’s an interesting twist: rumor has it, the car was originally built for Carroll Shelby’s banker, who reportedly drag-raced it!

Imagine walking into Shelby American in 1966 and ordering a factory-supercharged GT350.

Would you have chosen the supercharged 289, or stuck with the naturally aspirated GT350?
