Since her arrival in October of 2025, Chief (61’ Garlington) has undergone an extensive transformation at the Bayliss Boatyard. After the yard opened 20 years ago, re-powers, re-fits and full paint jobs have become the norm. We have the teams to execute these large projects and Chief is a great example of their work.

Chief has completed her full repaint, as well as an engine room makeover, repower and more. As for up-fits, her traditional black windshield was converted to white in order to deal with the heat of Costa Rica. Additionally, the team over at Everett Nautical handled her custom name application and faux teak work on the toe rail, helm pod, and half round.

In the engine room, Chief now has a freshly rebuilt and repainted MAN V12’s at 1360 HP each, along with a pair of Northern Lights 20 KW’s. Other additions include new air conditioning and pumps, battery system, B*W hinged sea chest screens, new shafts, new risers, and more. Also, can’t forget the new sonar that was installed.

With just a few details remaining, Chief hits the water this week!

May has marked a huge milestone for Hull 40, Mama Seata, as she has completed her trip to and from the paint bay. She made her way into the paint bay at the beginning of May and officially left Wednesday morning with a new look.

Mama Seata has been moved into the “make ready” bay where Palm Beach Towers is onsite and starting the process of her tower installation.

It is evident that we appreciate the individuals who dedicate themselves to the boatbuilding industry. However, every builders skill and passion must start somewhere, which is why the boatbuilding programs at Manteo Middle and High School are so dear to us.

Today, this 7th-grade class wheeled out the third boat they have built as a team over the last year and a half, a rare achievement to see these days. This effort was led by local boatbuilder Glenn Bradley and his daughter Stevie, a 7th-grade teacher, with support from the Dare County Boat Builders Foundation.

Shotski (Paul Mann 77’) has wrapped up her time in the boatyard with a number of mechanical and aesthetic improvements.

The project included installation of new Seakeeper 18 units, an upgrade from an Omni 8 to an Omni 10 Sonar, and updated salon lighting.

Additional work included fresh paint on the flybridge, maintenance coats on the transom, and a refinished bulkhead, toe rail, and half round.

We are looking forward to seeing what’s ahead for Shotski and crew!

A Bayliss tradition. Congrats to the Hull Carpentry crew on the Whiskey Plank for Hull 43, our latest 77’. The Whiskey Plank marks the last plank laid on a hull, toasted by the craftsmen who built her. Already counting down to the hull flip. 🥃
