On Ford’s 3.5L and 2.7L EcoBoost, a 2 to 5 second rattle at startup is one of the first warning signs of a stretched timing chain or failing cam phasers. Catch it early and it’s a repair. Let it go and the chain can jump timing, and that’s when engines get destroyed.
