Hamilton County Speedway 1/2 Mile Semi-Banked Dirt Track The Hamilton County Speedway is the oldest speedway in the state of Iowa, opening in July 1910.

In 1938, work began on the current location at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds. The semi-banked half-mile dirt track was completed in the spring of 1939, and the first races were held on the track in September of that year. The track is located off of US 20 at exit 140, then 1.2 miles north, then 0.5 mile east on Bank St., then 0.4 mile south on Bluff St.

The Central Iowa Truck Pullers Association, presented by JA Concrete Construction, invades the Karl Chevrolet Hamilton County Speedway this Friday night during the Hamilton County Fair!

With seven competitive classes, nearly $12,000 in prize money, and a special appearance by the Hot Rod V8 Tractors, it's going to be an action-packed night of horsepower and excitement!

Hamilton County Speedway Trailer Race Rules

β€’ All drivers must wear a helmet with eye protection and a seat belt. Drivers must wear long sleeves and gloves while in the vehicle.
β€’ All drivers must wear neck brace.
β€’ 5-Point Harness recommended.
β€’ Drivers only allowed in the vehicle- no passengers- no exceptions
β€’ If the driver removes seat belt or helmet or leave the vehicle for any reason during the race (except if your car is on fire or you are authorized by an official). Immediate disqualification will result!
β€’ A driver will be disqualified if their trailer becomes detached from the tow vehicle.
β€’ No vehicle-to-vehicle hits. Contact must be made to trailer only.
β€’ Driver must try to knock trailer off other vehicle. If you do not and you just drive around, you will be black flagged.
β€’ Winner is the last vehicle running with trailer still attached.
β€’ Any intentional targeting/questionable driving, at the discretion of the Speedway Officials, will result in immediate disqualification of the race & pay.

Vehicle Preparation
β€’ Gas tank moving is optional. If driver would like to move gas tank to behind the seat that is an option. Driver must be protected from any fire in vehicle and fire extinguisher is recommended.
β€’ Any size automobile may be used. Pickups and vans are allowed. Light duty blazers and SUV’s are allowed. If vehicle is 4x4 you must remove front drive shaft. No tow trucks, school buses, convertibles, or any other utility vehicle may be used. Demo Derby cars may be used. Limos and hearses are allowed. Three different Classes.
β€’ All glass, headlights, taillights, protruding trim, hardware, hub caps must be removed for safety purposes.
β€’ Driver’s door may be welded shut. All other doors must be chained for safety purposes (basic demo derby preparation rules).
β€’ Factory steel bumpers only. Radiator guards allowed not to extend past bumper.
β€’ Any ply tire may be used, maximum 16.5 inch. No studded tires.
β€’ Windshield or some sort of grading or chicken wire must be securely mounted for driver protection.

Hitch Preparation
Any type of factory hitch set up may be used. Example: ball hitch, pin hitch, pintle hitch. No 5th wheels allowed.

Trailer Preparations
β€’ Any single wheel trailer. Minimum of 8 feet in length for the trailer bed. Maximum of 2 axles. Trailer height must exceed 12 inches past height of tow vehicle.
β€’ No Full Size Campers, Pop-Up campers are allowed but must be extended during race.
β€’ No farm implements. Ex. manure spreaders, grinder mixers, including Implement Tires.
β€’ Boats & Trailers must be empty – no extra garbage or materials in them.
β€’ All glass, tail lights, protruding trim, hardware, hub caps must be removed for safety purposes.
β€’ Homemade trailers are allowed. If using homemade trailer must be at least 8 foot long and 4 foot wide.
β€’ No screws, bolts, nails allowed on trailer
β€’ All wood must be removed off the trailer.
β€’ No Chains holding trailer to vehicle.
β€’ All trailers must have some kind of item attached to trailer. To win the trailer race item must stay on trailer throughout the fifteen minute race.

Trailer Races and Train Race will finish up the the running of the Hamilton County Fair on Sunday July 26th. This fun and crazy evening has always been a hit and should be no different in 2026. More Money is on the line for this years trailer races as each class will pay $1,000 to win.

Another great night of racing action along with Kids Night and five more people inducted into the HCSRA Hall of Fame on this race night.

We are looking for some sponsors for the bikes as we are trying to give away more than 43 like we did in 2022. Want to donate a bicycle either pick one up and bring it to the track with your name on it or call Kelsey or Janet at the office as we will be making a trip to pickup bikes on Friday morning.

Friday Night July 24th will see something different at the Speedway with the Central Iowa Truck Pullers presented by JA Concrete Construction as the main sponsor of this event. This purse will draw in some of the best Truck Pullers as the purse is over $12,000 and is tied in with the Humboldt Fair on Saturday.

Come early stay late and watch some great Truck Pulling action. You have a truck you think can pull the Big Red Sled bring it on down and see how ya do!

Thursday Night Thunder will be the Grandstand event and will feature another great night of racing action featuring the Iron Man Stock Cars & B-Mods along with the USRA Modifieds, USRA Hobby Stocks and Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Series East Series paying $3,000 to win. A great field of Late Models is expected as they race on Friday in Marshalltown, IA.

Iron Man Stock Cars will pay $1,500 to win $175 to start with the USRA Iron Man B-Mods paying $1,200 to win with $130 to start.

It is the Hamilton County Fair time next week kicking off on Tuesday with the Annual Hamilton County Fair Parade. Tuesday Night will be the Queen Coranation under the Grandstands and live music on the Midway featuring Tank Anthony.

Wednesday will be Wacky Wednesday at the Grandstands featuring the USRA Iron Man Stock Cars and B-Mods along with USRA Modifieds, USRA Hobby Stocks and Crown Vics racing for some great money. Wacky Wednesday will be some more exciting things announced on Tuesday for each class. More money and grandstand giveaways.

Everything will kick off at 6:30 on Wednesday night.
