🚨 ELECTRIC SCOOTER LAW UPDATE 🚨
There has been a lot of discussion recently regarding Illinois Senate Bill 3336 and how it impacts electric scooters and micromobility devices across the state.
We want to assure our riders and community that RYDE Scooter Rentals’ current operational model is fully aligned with the proposed statewide framework established under SB3336.
Here’s what that means for our fleet and riders:
✅ Low-speed electric scooters operating at 15 mph
✅ Single-rider stand-up scooters
✅ No registration required
✅ No driver’s license required
✅ No vehicle title required
✅ Riders must meet minimum age requirements
✅ Allowed on bike paths, bike trails, and local streets where permitted
✅ Focus on safe, responsible micromobility transportation
The proposed legislation is designed to create clear statewide rules for low-speed electric scooters like the ones operated by RYDE while separating them from higher-speed electric motorcycles and modified e-bikes.
Our fleet at Rend Lake, Benton, and West Frankfort was intentionally designed around safe, low-speed recreational and transportation use. Features like parking zones, slow-speed zones, ID verification, and designated riding areas are all part of our commitment to safe and compliant operations.
As always:
🛴 Ride responsibly
🛴 Follow local traffic laws
🛴 One rider per scooter
🛴 Respect pedestrians and trails
We’re excited to continue growing safe micromobility options in Southern Illinois.
