Wiper blades that streak. A tire pressure light you've been ignoring. An oil change that was due a few weeks ago.

Fall has a way of surfacing all the small car maintenance things summer let slide, usually right when you need them most.

No judgment here. What's yours?

Route planning matters for a longer drive, but so does the car underneath you. A few minutes on these before you head out can save you a bigger problem later:

→ Tire tread and pressure, including the spare
→ Wiper blades, especially if you haven't used them much since spring
→ Every light working: headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals
→ Windshield washer fluid topped off

None of it takes long. It's just easier to catch on a driveway than on the side of a highway.

Brake fluid is one of those things you do not need to know how to repair in order to know when something looks off.

Most reservoirs are easy to inspect from the outside. The main thing is knowing where to find it and whether the level is sitting between the MIN and MAX marks.

A few good habits:
→ Check the car on level ground
→ Read the level from the outside before opening anything
→ Use only the brake fluid type listed on the cap or in the owner’s manual
→ If the level keeps dropping, have the car inspected

Low brake fluid is not something to keep topping off without asking why it is low in the first place.

Knowing what normal looks like gives you a much better chance of catching a problem early.

➡️😌 Merging onto a highway or busy road can feel terrifying, but it doesn't have to!

In this video, we break down the step-by-step technique to merge smoothly, safely, and without the panic.

🚗 Watch this before your next highway drive! Tag a new driver who needs this reminder.

You're driving through a quiet neighborhood at a normal speed. A kid darts out from between two parked cars, chasing a ball or a friend, without looking first.

You have maybe half a second to react.

The honest answer is that the drivers who handle this best are usually the ones who were already going slower than they needed to and already scanning between parked cars, before anything happened.

What's your instinct in that split second, and what do you think helps prevent it from becoming a close call in the first place?

It happens to almost every new driver eventually. A curb they clip, a light they run by accident, a parking job that needs three tries in front of someone else.

How you react in that moment tends to matter more than the mistake itself. A calm response teaches them mistakes are something to learn from. A sharp one teaches them mistakes are something to hide.

That doesn't mean it shouldn't get addressed. It means it can wait until everyone's out of the car and the adrenaline's settled, instead of happening in the two seconds right after it occurs.

Smooth braking is a skill, not just hitting the pedal!

Jerky stops can startle passengers, cause accidents, and wear out your vehicle faster. In this video, we explain WHY smooth braking matters and HOW to do it.

🚗 Save this and practice it during your next drive!

Myth: You need to let your car idle for several minutes on a cold morning before driving.

Fact: Modern engines warm up faster while driving gently than while sitting still. Idling for more than 30 seconds mostly wastes fuel without doing much for the engine.

What helps on a cold morning is driving at a moderate speed for the first few minutes rather than accelerating hard right away, and giving your windshield enough time to fully defrost before you pull out, since visibility matters more than engine temperature.

An old habit, worth updating.
