Cold mornings are the honest test of a vehicle. A slow crank, a heater that takes forever, a squeal at startup, or a low tire light are all your car telling you something before winter makes it worse. If any of that sounds familiar, bring it in while it is still a small job.

Mechanic Monday tip: put a small kit in the trunk before the weather turns. A flashlight, gloves, a phone charger, a blanket, and a scraper. You will not need it most of the year. The one night you do, it will not feel like a small thing at all.

Myth Buster Friday: cloudy headlights are just a cosmetic problem. They are a safety problem. Oxidized, hazy lenses scatter light instead of projecting it down the road, and they can cut your usable light output dramatically. You lose seeing distance at exactly the time of year you need it most. Restoring them is quick and inexpensive, and the difference at night is immediate.

Wet leaves are slicker than most drivers expect, especially on a painted line, a metal grate, or a shaded curve. Slow down earlier, brake sooner, and give yourself more room. Good tread and healthy brakes are what turn a surprise into a non-event.

Trivia Wednesday: in most states, what is the legal minimum tire tread depth? A) 2/32 of an inch B) 4/32 of an inch C) 6/32 of an inch. Drop your guess below.

The days are getting shorter fast, and more of your driving is happening in the dark. Headlight aim, bulb brightness, and lens clarity all fade gradually enough that you never quite notice it happening. We can check all three and tell you what is worth doing.

10/19/2026

Mechanic Monday tip: clean the inside of your windshield. Not the outside, the inside. Film builds up from dust and interior off-gassing, and it turns every low sun and every oncoming headlight into glare. It is the cheapest visibility upgrade there is, and this is the season you actually notice the difference.

Myth Buster Friday: rotating your tires is optional as long as they still look fine. Rotation is a big part of why they still look fine. Front and rear tires wear at different rates, and moving them around evens that out so all four last longer and grip more predictably. Plenty of tire warranties require documented rotations, too. If you cannot remember your last one, it is time.

A four wheel alignment does more than stop uneven tire wear, though it does that too. It keeps the vehicle tracking straight and the steering wheel centered where it belongs. If you find yourself correcting constantly just to hold a lane, that is worth checking before it eats a set of tires.

10/14/2026

Trivia Wednesday: for every 10 degree drop in outside temperature, about how much tire pressure do you lose? A) About 1 PSI B) About 5 PSI C) None, pressure does not change. Guess below.
