Let’s make this go viral so every knows how they treat people!
Hi my name is Robert Thompson and I moved from Ball Ground GA to Temple GA and here is my story.
I'm writing to you after some time has passed so this doesn't sound like an irrational upset customer ranting. No, I am not an angry customer that needs a gift certificate to appease him. I am a truly disappointed customer that experienced nothing short of being robbed of my time, my money and my dignity. Now that I have your attention let me tell you the story of our move.
How it started.
It started on May 14th, by asking for an offer for the home where my family and I lived. On May 20th I received a Purchase Contract and on May 21st I executed the contract. We had been looking at moving options and had an estimate from a moving company when OfferPad announced that they paid for moving ! That excited us because they said they would take the stress and expense off our plates! A stress free move? Yeah, I’ll take that offer! We went back and forth about a few details, but , in the end we agreed on everything so we proceeded to the closing of our home.
Important dates.
Closing was on June 5th, June 7th was moving day and June 8th was our final walk through of the home to insure we were out of the home promptly at 5:00 pm on Thursday June 8th, 2023.
The day after closing.
I rented a truck the day after closing. It was a 20’ box truck from U-Haul. Which would turn out to be my unassuming home for the next 5 days! We had packed mostly everything in our home and the reason for the truck was to get a head start on moving day by pre-moving all the boxes we had previously packed on Wednesday June 6th into our new home so the movers could make the best use of their time moving the big stuff.
Wednesday morning June 7th, moving day.
I was tired after having a long day of moving boxes and I was very excited for someone else to take over the move while I concentrated on some of the other things that needed doing, like going to work. Three men showed up on time but didn’t bring a truck. I stood in shock that no one was coming to help move. My mind went blank and my body went numb. This can’t be happening, these are professionals!!! There were supposed to be six people with two 26’ box trucks. The movers were clearly upset at the situation and moved one load of furniture into my truck that I had rented for other purposes! Then we took that load to my new home, they unloaded it, announced that they were done, and left! I was left with a house empty on one end and full on the other end. I had no idea what to do. I called Offerpad and Bellhop continuously over the next few days but nothing was done. No one ever offered up a truck or movers to finish the job that they were paid to do! No one offered any compensation for our expenses no one offered any help at all! While I was making my last of six round trips back and forth five days later i started to realize what what had happened, they tricked me into moving my family all by myself! Offerpad and had not offered to reschedule the move or assist us in any way!!! I thought how can a company do this and just get away with it? I’m 55 years old! Not dead, but not a young man either and this company promised me a great moving experience! What happened? Misunderstandings, miscommunication, and an under education in the ways of the world and how people can manipulate a situation to suit their own agenda.
Add up the expenses.
How? How do you put a dollar amount on the pain and suffering my family went through? The fights my wife and I still have after this move. I had some friends here and there help me a little, but Bellhop had already broken and damaged most of mine and my families belongings. I later found out I could hire expensive day movers to help at an astronomical cost!!! I would have rather done that but I didn’t know until the last day! I’m not a professional mover, I haven’t moved hundreds of times, I don’t know the “industry “. We have been scarred by this move and we will never be able to get those pieces of our lives back. It’s just another move to them, just another dollar they made, just another home they sold, but to us…..it’s our lives that they played with and that doesn’t come without its costs. So the expenses???? I don’t know, a couple hundred? A few thousand? I don’t know, but what my family was put through, intentionally or not, is a number too high to wrap my head around.
Words are powerful.
Words are very powerful! But what is more powerful? Words with evidence and witnesses to back those words up. I have been very careful not to say anything out of anger, instead I chose to stick with the facts and paint a picture of the disaster that was our move.
And to this very day I have not received any compensation for my troubles. I hope this helps other people in a similar situation and maybe someone out there has the power to not let this mess get swept under the rug and make them responsible for my move.
Thank you very much, Robert Thompson and family
