### Shop Talk Tuesday... on a Thursday? ###

Summer's here and we're slammin' 'em out so fast we honestly don't know what day it is anymore. 😅

Q Hey Rich, I'm planning a road trip over the Fourth of July. How can I get better fuel mileage?
A With the high cost of gas, everyone is looking to get better fuel economy. You can try driving as if there is an egg on your gas pedal. An oil change with full synthetic motor oil is a good start. Inflate your tires to the recommended air pressure. Not all gasolines are the same, I prefer to buy my gas at a brand name station. It may cost a nickel more, so a fill up costs a dollar more when you buy 20 gallons.
Install a new engine air filter and while you're at it, change the cabin filter also. Wash and wax the car to improve its aerodynamics. If your vehicle has more than 60,000 miles have the spark plugs changed. I would also suggest having Legacy Tire and Auto Repair perform an induction cleaning service. If the engine is heavily carboned, we can perform a walnut blast to remove the mileage robbing carbon deposits. Changing the transmission fluid is another service that may help with fuel economy. One last item is a high-quality fuel injector cleaner. Have a safe summer and enjoy our great nation's 250th birthday.

It’s officially the first week of summer, and if I’m being honest, I completely forgot all about Shop Talk this week.

Between the kids being home, sunshine, and making the most of summer break, we’ve been having way too much fun to remember what day it is.

Happy Birthday to CJ!

If it’s broken, busted, making a weird noise, or held together by pure luck… somehow CJ can fix it. Doesn’t matter if it’s cars, equipment, or something nobody else wants to touch — he’ll figure it out.

We’re lucky to have somebody around who can pretty much build, repair, or rig up anything with a little time and the right tools. Hope today gives you a break from fixing everyone else’s problems for once.

### Shop Talk Tuesday, with Rich ###

Q Hey Rich, I think my car needs an alignment!
A What is happening with the car that makes you think it needs an alignment? Oh, so it shakes when you go over 60 MPH. It may need an alignment, but that is not the underlying cause. When we have a ride disturbance, the first thing to check is the tires and wheels. We will look for any bends in the rims as well as any irregular tire wear. Irregular tire wear can cause vibrations and a bent rim.
If we find irregular tire wear we must find and correct its cause. Worn-out shocks or struts could cause this. Worn tie rods and ball joints can also cause tire wear. Failing to rotate tires at recommended service intervals can cause uneven wear. The tire with the slow leak that contains fix-a-flat will cause a vibration. Often, the correction is as simple as rebalancing the tires. When you speak to a service advisor tell them what you notice, hear or feel in the car, not what you think the issue is.
