🚢 La gran mentira de las horas de motor en yates

Una de las situaciones más curiosas que veo en el mercado de yates usados es esta:

Un comprador rechaza un yate de €3M porque los motores tienen 900 horas.

Pero se enamora de otro barco con 200 horas que ha pasado seis años sin salir de la marina.

Desde el punto de vista de ingeniería… eso puede ser exactamente la decisión equivocada.

Los motores diésel marinos de fabricantes como MAN, MTU, Volvo Penta o Caterpillar no están diseñados como motores de automóvil. Son máquinas industriales diseñadas para miles de horas de operación continua.

En muchos casos, 900 horas representan menos del 10% de su vida útil antes de un overhaul mayor.

El verdadero riesgo muchas veces no está en las horas. Está en el desuso.

Cuando un yate pasa años amarrado sin operar aparecen problemas silenciosos:

• Pulido de cilindros (cylinder glazing)
• Cristalización de sal en intercambiadores
• Sellos secos que empiezan a fugar
• Combustible degradado
• Generadores sobredimensionados trabajando a baja carga (wet stacking)

En otras palabras:

Un yate que se usa regularmente y se mantiene correctamente suele ser una inversión mucho más segura que un “dock queen” con pocas horas.

Por eso los buenos ingenieros y surveyors no empiezan mirando el contador de horas.

Empiezan mirando:

✓ historial de mantenimiento
✓ análisis de aceite
✓ carga de generadores
✓ estado del sistema de refrigeración
✓ calidad de instalación en el engine room

El contador de horas solo cuenta una parte de la historia.

La ingeniería cuenta el resto.
