Did you know that St Helena Island receives most of its imports from South Africa? Eight new Toyota Hilux bakkies has just been sent to do duty on the Saint Helena International Airport, and to protect them from rust, they have each been fitted with a RustStop RS5 - 6 anode unit. All succumbs to rust eventually, but this method of cathodic protection slows down the rust by 76%, meaning that rust formed in 3 years will now only happen in 12 years. These RustStop units will serve the vehicles well on this humid island, in the midst of the South Atlantic Ocean, 1,200 miles from Africa and 1,800 miles from South America.

I recently installed a RustStop RS5 - 4 anode unit on a 5 Door Suzuki Jimny. It has a 10 years 1million km drivetrain warranty, so protecting it against rust is a no brainer! Installation was easy. The Control unit runs from the battery, and the 4x rust magnets are installed on the four corners of the vehicle. Now it is ready for its travels!

RustStop RX100 was used to protect this V8 engine from rust. Fitted in a 4x4 and doing beach driving and boat launches the small bits on the engine starts rusting. RX100 is a see-through coating that stops rust without spoiling the engine.

I had to replace the anodes of a RustStop RS5 unit on a Hilux that was in an accident and body panels replaced. This Hilux spent a lot of time on the Namibian coast and was the only one that came out without rust. A Nissan bakkie was severely rusted after one year. "My Hilux would not have been in such a good condition if it did not have RustStop protection" he said.

It is not often that I get the chance to see how well the RustStop RS5 unit works, but the owner of a Toyota Hilux Legend came by to make sure the unit is still working. He has been living 100m from the sea in Table View, Cape Town for years, and spends a lot of time working and playing on the Namibian coast, driving via the coast. He was impressed with the performance of the RustStop RS5 unit on his Hilux. Chips on the bonnet stabilized and did not rust, even though the RustStop unit only claims a slow down of rust by 76%! The rest of the vehicle was rust free. Some pitting around the rear anode was evident, a sign of a very hard working RustStop unit, but still no rust. Another happy customer!

Lots of installations lately after cars started rusting. RustStop is the best insurance against rust, especially in coastal areas, and best to fit now before rust happens.

The new upgraded RustStop RS5 is here to stop vehicle rust from forming before it starts.

Based on well known corrosion prevention practices RustStop has been protecting cars from rusting since 1989.
• Designed by certified engineers with over 40 years experience in electronic rust protection.
• RustStop® RS-5 uses a dual technology to be effective in both wet and dry conditions.

o an on-board Pico-Fuse has been introduced which will pop if the system experiences a major fault to ensure that it cannot draw any excess current (popped fuse still covered by warranty).

I recently installed Rust Stop RS5 units on two VW T5 buses - a Caravelle and T5 Transporter. The bigger vehicles has a larger propensity to rust in coastal areas it seems. Prevention is better than cure.
