At the Tankwa Bike Burn with a great team of guys. Tough riding for big bikes at times but an incredible event showcasing what the Western Cape has to offer for adventure touring.

Day 12 included some good gravel the back way via Elim and the 'Waterfront Coffee shop". From here it was Hermanus for lunch, then the coast road via Kleinmond, Betty's Bay etc (on what has to be the most scenic road in South Africa), and back to Cape Town. We would normally spend the night in Hermanus, but our clients had to return to Cape Town.

Day 11 of the Adventure tour is a 200km blast from Montagu through the wine producing regions of Ashton and Bonnievale, south into the Swartland wheat growing area down to the coast. As far south as you can travel in Africa, to the tip of Africa at Cape Aghulas. These gravel roads are fast easy riding and include a welcome break as one awaits the two man powered pont across the Breede River. Struisbaai and Cape Aghulas are truly spectacular, as these images show.

Day 10 of the Adventure Tour is normally another marathon on gravel of 320km to Montagu including the Swartburg and the technical Rooiberg Passes. In the interests of safety given our clients' relative inexperience on gravel, we stuck to the 260km tar alternative. You never quite get that same adventure experience on road, but the legendary R62 is still one fantastic bikers paradise as it carves through endless Karoo landscape. Meiringspoort is the first highlight as the road slices through the Swartburg, followed by the R62 all the way to Montagu. Lunch at Jam Tarts in Barrydale is a must. A cool pool, a few cold beers and fine dining at the old Colonial Mimosa to finish.

Day 9 of the Adventure Tour takes us on a long 280km ride from the Crags near Plett along the coast, to Prince Albert in the arid Karoo. Normally this would be a marathon 350km day all gravel including the Prince Alfred and Swartberg passes. With novice dirt riders we took the tar route alternative over the spectacular George Pass via Oudtshoorn to the Cango Caves and eventually over the Adventure Biker's all time best, the Swartberg Pass. Descending the pass through the most unbelievable rock formations, into Prince Albert in the late afternoon light is really special.

Day 8 the Adventure heads west again, but not far. We kick off with a kayak adventure up the Storms River which reveals some truely incredible scenery and marine wild life between the steep cliffs of the gorge. Later we head off to the Crags via the old Natures Valley pass, biker's heaven, no traffic and endless sweeping corners until the Lily Pond turn off where once again, luxury and fine dining are the order of the day.

Day 7 and our Adventure tour leaves Knysna and heads off to the Storms River via Plettenberg Bay and Natures Valley. Some of the best scenery the Garden Route has to offer. After a Canopy Tour of the incredible indigenous forests we arrive at the breathtaking Fernery Lodge overlooking the ocean from the cliffs above. This has to be one of the most Iincredible locations imagineable.
