TRAINER PROFILE: VENGI MASAWI

Masawi, had arrived in South Africa from Zimbabwe in 2004, before stints with Gary Alexander at Turffontein and Sharon Patterson at Randjesfontein led him to a job with Diane de K**k in 2007. He blossomed at the De K**k yard, learning the trade under the mentorship of one of the sport’s giants, Mike, and later his son Mathew. Through the Delpech association with the De K**ks, and the former champion jockey’s ascension to Hollywood Racing manager, Masawi trekked further south in 2024 for Ashburton, armed with an assistant trainer’s licence.

Our next big milestone will be Final Declarations on Monday, 22 Jun, followed by the Final Field and Barrier Draw on 23 Jun. We’re just one week away from knowing exactly who will run - and from where!
