Motorcade Motorsport is officially hiring another Motor Technician for our Bellville workshop. 🛠️

We are looking for a passionate and experienced technician to join our growing team and work on a wide range of vehicles from everyday maintenance to performance-focused projects. If you have strong workshop experience, excellent diagnostic skills, and a passion for motorsport, we would love to hear from you.

Requirements:
• Matric (Grade 12) & Motor Mechanic Trade Certificate
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a qualified motor technician
• Multiple brand experience will be advantageous
• Strong diagnostic and repair knowledge
• Experience with diagnostic equipment essential
• Valid driver’s licence with own reliable transport
• Neat and professional work ethic
• Ability to work independently and within a team
• References and 3 recent payslips required

Responsibilities include:
• Vehicle diagnostics and fault finding
• Repairs, servicing, and inspections
• Engine and mechanical repairs
• Maintaining high workshop standards and attention to detail
• Assisting with performance and specialised vehicle projects

We have seen our fare share of turbo damage over the years, typically bearing failure, that cause other damages. Occasionally we have seen bolts and foreign objects bend and chip blades.

This Landcruiser 4.5 D4D came in for low on power, after inspection, found it sucked in dust and sand. This is how badly it ate the compressor blades. First image is the new turbo now fitted vs one of the two removed.

The vehicle now boosts on target and much more responsive!

Our apologies to all our loyal customers and followers for not making posts over the last couple of months. Its been an extremely busy time and we had lots of challenges to overcome and projects to complete.

Corsa Utility 1.4 Club came in for its annual service, we would like to share some glimpses of the repairs performed.

Upon inspection during major service, we reported a list of faults and given the customer the opportunity to repair. Many similar faults was reported at the previous service/repairs we performed over a year ago, we then repaired a rough running engine and did cambelt, waterpump, etc

Once we finished the Major service we were also tasked with replacing the leaking rear brake wheel cylinders, drums and shoes and upfront, replacing very badly worn rack ends, tierod ends and complete control arms, as both the bushes and balljoints was worn.

While the vehicle was with us, we also addressed some creature comforts, such as repairing the aircon, repairing the wiper rack and solve some rattle issues, together with some other miscellaneous repairs.

Hope to see the vehicle back for its annual service next year again, as often customers neglect their vehicles for a few years and then the repairs become costly to swallow at once.

After lots of questions and customers not understanding how certain things work, we decided that we will give a few technical explanation on various subjects.

What is an EGR Valve and what does it do?

The EGR valve works by recirculating a measured amount of the exhaust gases back into the engine through the air intake system, reducing the amount of emissions the engine produces.
The problem lies with the exhaust gas that contain carbon deposits, this gas is constantly being recirculated through the engine, which over time will cause a build-up of the carbon deposits in the intake manifold and other parts including the EGR valve. This build up in the valve is often what causes them to fail or leak.

What is an EGR Cooler?��The EGR Cooler is designed to lower the temperature of the exhaust gases before they are recirculated back into the engine. This is done to keep the inlet air temperatures as low as possible. These are known for cracking which normally results in coolant loss.

�EGR Valve Fault Symptoms:
• Loss of power
• Lower fuel consumption
• Reduced throttle response
• Limp Mode
Warnings:
• Engine Management Light
• Flashing Glow Plug Light

EGR Removal
There are a few ways of removing the EGR System from the vehicle or preventing it from functioning. The first way is by using a simple blanking plate, we sandwich a plate between the EGR pipe flanges, thus blocking the flow.

Other models we have to make an special elimination pipe, completely removing the system.

On vehicles equipped with an EGR cooler, we do suggest removing it, as if it fails it will cause a coolant loss, which many workshops mis-diagnose as various other failures such as head-gasket.

Once the valve is either removed or blanked off the vehicles ECU will no longer get a signal from the EGR Valve causing the emissions workshop light to appear on the dash board, this however does not happen on all models. If needed, we can remove this by reprogramming the EGR software on the ECU or fitting a chip.

Benefits of removing the EGR Valve
• Lowered Engine Temps
• Improved Throttle Response
• Improved Economy
• Reduces Oil Contamination
• Reduces Carbon Deposits in the engine

Please Note:
The EGR Valve is not recommended to be removed on vehicles that still have the DPF Filter in place, doing so may block the DPF as the EGR Valve operation is a prerequisite for DPF Regeneration.

DPF can once again be removed and software changes/chip done to eliminate the need.

Keep in mind that your engine runs on a mixture of fuel and oxygen, which it mixes in the cylinder, ignites and then expels as exhaust fumes. The addition of exhaust gasses inside the cylinder when it ignites simply means that there are not as much space left for the fuel and oxygen, which ultimately leads to less power from a smaller combustion inside the cylinder.
It is also important to acknowledge that the improvement in the quality of the exhaust fumes are negligle in many engines using EGR, while the improvement in performance from the removal of the EGR can be very significant.

Currently have a Mechanic position open for an energetic person, who has attention to detail. Duties which includes, but not limited to service/maintenance on vehicles, removal and refitting of engines, removing and refitting of turbo’s and various diagnostics procedures. Some Auto electrical knowledge would be beneficial.

Salary will be industry standard and based upon experience/knowledge. It is essentially that you can read, write and speak fluently Afrikaans and English. With majority of our customers being Afrikaans.
