It is the only aftermarket Suspension kit that I know off that carries the ISO 9000-2008 Quality certification. RAW 4X4 AFRICA was launched in February 2015 in South Africa but has been in Australia for 32 years. RAW manufacture two types of shock absorbers. Both of these shocks have the capability to operate in temperature in excess of 240⁰C. This allows you to have complete control of your veh
icle on D type roads as there will be no shock absorber fade due to increases in heat. Name of range: RAW Predator
Bore diameter: 46 mm
External casing diameter: 50 mm
Stroke length: 226 mm
Rod diameter: 14 mm
Rod material: Induction hardened rod (SAE1040) with high wear resistant polished chrome surface finish (weld free)
Oil-capacity: 330 ml
How is the piston formed? 2 piece digressive sintered metal piston with disk valve design. Foam-cell or Nitro gas? Nitrogen gas separated by a floating piston
Mono or double tube? Monotube
Special features of shocks and their purpose? The Raw Predator range brings together that elusive combination of comfort and control into one unit. Based on a fast acting monotube design the RAW Predator is at home on or off road, being of a single tube construction heat is dissipated very quickly allowing the unit to remain cool under demanding road conditions. Having the gas and oil separated by a floating piston, the oil is under constant pressure improving the reaction speed of the shock to the terrain ahead. The large pistons (46mm) have multi stage shim stacks for precise comfort and control. The Predator range is manufactured with a thick 2mm tube to withstand stone damage, along with structural projection welds and 180 degree reinforced arc welds on all fittings. All of the Predator are equipped with one piece eye rings and polyurethane bushes
Are there any vehicles currently common on the road that you do not stock suspensions for? We do not cater for the small soft roaders but cater for most of the vehicles that are in South Africa e.g. FORD : NISSAN :TOYOTA : ISUZU : LANDROVER : JEEP : MITSUBISHI
What testing does the shock under go? (Be specific) The RAW Predator range is a unique monotube design that has been on the market for of 5 years travelling the corrugated outback roads of Australia. All units have been through a rigorous trial fitment period on all types of terrain and have been tested on our articulation ramp to improve overall suspension performance. Apart from real world testing, a design is validated through dynamometer and lab testing for performance through some of the tests below:
• 7 speed sine wave valving performance test
• Water cooled sine on sine durability test of over 1 million cycles.
• Structural destructive tensile strength test
• Gas reaction force
• Corrosion resistance testing
What country is the company from? Australia
Where is the factory where the shock is manufactured? Australia (New South Wales)
What additional alterations are necessary when installing these shocks (with the full suspension – leafs and struts)? It is critically important when installing shock absorbers and struts that they are matched to the correct coils / leaf springs and the weight of the load bearing accessories fitted to the vehicle (front & rear) have been taken into account. This will have a large say in comfort and control plus how long the shock absorbers will last. Monotube shock absorbers are a finely tube specialist product and special care must be taken when fitting to a vehicle as some fitting components such as the collar and spring seat need to be installed correctly as these components cannot be welded to the outside tube. This is to prevent body damage and piston rod damage. Are there any warranty/guarantees on the shock? 2 year / 150,000 km
