15 000 KM ON THE MAXTREK M/T TYRES
The 4Xplore Adventures vehicle is getting its tyres rotated, and with 15 000 km behind us on the Maxtrek M/Ts, I thought this would be a good time to share my experience with them.
Before fitting these tyres, I actually did a fair bit of reading up on them and came across some negative reviews. I'll admit, they made me think twice about whether I was making the right decision.
But the price was attractive, and I decided to give them a chance and see for myself how they would perform under the conditions we regularly drive in.
Well, 15 000 km later, I must say, they've surprised me!
These tyres have done their fair share of tar, plenty of gravel roads, rocky mountain trails and some proper muddy sections. And I haven't exactly been gentle with them either!
Here's how I'd rate them so far:
Rocks – 9/10
Mud – 9/10
Gravel Roads – 9/10
Tar Roads – 8/10
Sidewall Strength – 9.5/10
Tread Durability – 9.5/10
Value for Money – 9/10
Overall, I'd give them a solid 9/10.
What has impressed me the most is how well they've held up. After 15 000 km, there's no tread chipping and no sidewall damage, despite some of the rocky terrain we've taken them through. That's something I'm really happy about.
On the rocks and in the mud, they've been excellent. They've also surprised me on gravel roads, where they feel stable and predictable.
On tar, I've got no real complaints about the handling either,
BUT, they are noisy...
These things definitely let you know they're there! Especially on the open road. If you're looking for a quiet tyre, these probably aren't for you. But personally, I can live with a bit of tyre noise if they keep performing the way they have off-road.
Would I buy them again?
From what i have experiencedso far, without a doubt!
I'm simply sharing what I've experienced on our own vehicle.
For what I paid and the punishment they've taken so far, I'm genuinely impressed.
Of course, 15 000 km doesn't tell the whole story. There's still plenty of life and plenty of adventures ahead, so it'll be interesting to see how they look at 30 000 km.
For now, I'm more than happy with them!
And that's what 4Xplore Adventures is all about – getting out there, using the equipment and sharing what actually works for us.
