Meet Jan, the oldest known Beetle in South Africa.
Built in Wolfsburg and brought to our shores the very same year, he’s more than a car… he’s a piece of living history.
In 1971, a nationwide search by Volkswagen South Africa and Wheels Magazine set out to find the oldest Beetle.
Jan took the title, and his owner, Mr. David Rubin, drove away in a brand-new 1300 Beetle in exchange.
No chrome. Cable brakes. Pure, original spec.

VW, You & Me – a story that still drives us forward 💙

From its original debut in 1988; the iconic VW, You & Me captured something timeless. People from all walks of life coming together, united by purpose and passion.

More than 30 years later, that same spirit lives on.
In every shift, every journey, and every Volkswagen that shares the road with us.

At the AutoPavilion, we’re proud to be part of that legacy, a story built by people, for people, across generations.

As we celebrate 75 years with Mzansi, this moment reminds us that it’s always been about more than just cars. It’s about connection.

Power meets prestige, with a story worth telling.

The Audi A8 W12 you see at the AutoPavilion wasn’t always destined for the spotlight. Once a training vehicle, it was dismantled piece by piece and nearly lost to time, until a passionate team brought it back to life, preserving a rare W12-powered icon for future generations.

And what an icon it is:

🔹 368 kW (500 PS) of refined power
🔹 0–100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds
🔹 Quattro all-wheel drive with 8-speed Tiptronic
🔹 Adaptive air suspension with Autobahn mode
🔹 Long wheelbase comfort and executive luxury

More than metal and engineering, this A8 W12 tells a story of teamwork, craftsmanship and second chances.

📍 Visit the AutoPavilion to see this remarkable comeback for yourself.

The road to electric began long ago with Volkswagen. 🚘 🛣️ 🔋

The Volkswagen’s XL1, presented in 2013 as a concept car, was the world’s most economical car featuring a diesel plug-in hybrid powertrain with fuel consumption of only 0.9 l/100 km.

The powertrain consisted of a two-cylinder TDI engine and an electric motor, a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG) and a lithium-ion battery.
