Stay safe in the heat
Temperatures are forecast to hit 38-40 degrees across parts of the country tomorrow and Thursday.
To help to stay safe in the heat, we recommend you avoid avoid travelling during the hottest part of the day where possible, take regular breaks and stay in the shade wherever you can.
Please share locks if you’re able and use water carefully, shutting lock gates and paddles after use, to help preserve water across the network. This is more important than ever in prolonged periods of hot and dry weather. If you see that water levels are looking unusually low, please let the Canal & River Trust know Tel 0303 040 4040.

There are hundreds of historic pubs alongside canals and rivers in England and Wales, offering the perfect spot to moor up, relax and enjoy some great food and drink.
Here are some of the best canalside pubs to visit on a canal boat holiday:
1. The Barge Inn at Seend
This beautiful pub on the Kennet & Avon Canal in Wiltshire has a large waterside beer garden offers classic pub favourites, including great Sunday roasts. You can easily reach the Barge Inn from our bases at Bath, Monkton Combe and Bradford on Avon.
2. The Bay Horse at Snaygill
On the Leeds & Liverpool Canal near Keigthley, this popular country pub dates back to 1822. The Bay Horse is a Vintage Inn serving country pub classics and cask ales. From Silsden, it takes just under 3 hours to reach The Bay Horse.
3. The Bridge Inn at Chirk Bank
Also known as 'The Trap', this traditional pub on the Llangollen Canal in the village of Chirk Bank offers visitors fantastic views of Chirk Aqueduct. You can reach the Bridge Inn on a short break from Trevor or Whixall.
4. The Fleur De Lys at Lowsonford
This pretty 17th century country pub in the Warwickshire village of Lowsonford has a beer garden on the banks of the Stratford Canal and is famous for its pies. The Fleur De Lys is just over 3 hours from Wootton Wawen.
5. The Plume of Feathers at Barlaston
This popular pub on the Trent & Mersey Canal in Staffordshire has a great a menu of homemade dishes made from fresh local ingredients. It takes just over 7 hours to reach the Plume of Feathers from our Great Haywood base.
6. The Olde Barbridge Inn near Nantwich
This historic pub on the Shropshire Union Canal sells local ales brewed at its own local brewery and serves classic British food made with local produce. The Olde Barbridge Inn is an hour’s cruise from Bunbury.
7. The Shroppie Fly at Audlem
One of the best known pubs on the nextwork, this historic inn is on the Shropshire Union Canal at Audlem. You can reach it on a short break from Bunbury.

We're offering £45 off day boat hire from Bradford on Avon on week days in June and July.
So why not treat your family and friends to a lovely day out boating on the beautiful Kennet & Avon Canal in Wiltshire.
You can cruise west through the Bath Valley to Brassknocker Basin and back, crossing magnificent Bath stone aqueducts at Avoncliff and Dundas.
Or you head east through the Wiltshire countryside to Semington and back.
Full tuition is included and our boats are pet friendly.
All our day boats are equipped with the facilities you need for a great day out, including cutlery, crockery, a kettle, 2 burner hob, fridge, sink and toilet. So you can plan a picnic afloat or stop off at a canalside pub for lunch.
There’s indoor and outdoor seating on all our day boats, so whatever the weather, you can enjoy the ever changing view.
We have 4 day boats for hire at Bradford on Avon Marina all with space for up to 10 people.
Week day hire in June and July is £140 (discount applied), £199 at weekends and bank holidays.
Hire times are from 9am until 4pm during the season.

Summer boat trips across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
Over the summer our Little Star (Seren Fach) trip boat is running 5 skippered cruises a day across the UNESCO World Heritage Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in North Wales.
Described by Sir Walter Scott as a ‘stream in the sky’ where ‘fish swim above birds’, the aqueduct carries the Llangollen Canal 38 metres high across the Dee Valley.
Our 45-minute-long return boat trips offer the chance to cruise across this incredible feat of engineering.
You’ll experience amazing views across the Dee Valley, and hear about the history of the aqueduct as you glide slowly along.
Trips depart daily at 11am, 12 noon, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm from Canal Wharf, Trevor, Llangollen LL20 7TT.
Adult tickets are priced at £10 each, children (under 16) are £6.
Family tickets for 2 adults and 2 children are £25 each.
Purchase tickets in advance online or buy on the day, subject to availability.
Tickets within 24 hours of travel can only be booked at the boat.
