My buddy Andrew Windrum had a bit of misfortune whilst racing in Scotland recently and has a bit of a road to recovery with a broken patella, patella tendon and a huge laceration, so what better time to upgrade and have something to look forward to.

I’ve just fitted a Shimano Bike XT Di2 upgrade kit to his lovely Trek Supercalibre for some ace wireless shifting action when he gets back to business.

There is really good pricing on upgrade shifting kits at the moment, so if you’ve been fancying electronic/wireless shifting yourself, call the shop and we can discuss options.

A quick tubeless refresh on this Hunt/Maxxis 29er wheelset.

Overhaul service on this Forme which had seriously see. Better days when it came in.

Seized brake callipers, thick build up of oil and dirt on the drivetrain, brakes, and hubs, seized STI adjusters which snapped off and had to be drilled out and re-tapped. This one really required some elbow grease, but I’m glad it’s ready to get back out on the road now.

New chain, new cassette, new STI adjusters and fresh handlebar tape.

Luvly!

Quick spoke replacement, true and tension on the rear wheel of this Wilier E-Bike.

Also noticed it was missing bar ends, so snook a fresh pair of freebies in for the customer.

Overhaul service on this old Raleigh included modifying modern 11 tooth jockey wheels, machining bushings to suit and utilising the old 10 tooth jockey wheel caps in order for everything to align and the derailleur to accurately shift through the gears.

I also used Hsmmerite Kurust on all rusty areas to neutralise and blacken the rust, keeping the patina but making it look a bit nicer than just being flaky and bright orange. This, among many other things, is something I really liked which Matty Waudby© used to do whilst working here.

The drivetrain was thick with many years of oil so a full scrape and degrease was required, and thankfully the new Muc-Off parts washer here in the workshop was just the ticket and this bike gave it a great first test.

New chain, new pedals, new bartape, crank pedal threads re-tapped as one was cross threaded, new cables throughout, wheels trued as best as they would allow, BB serviced, Headset serviced and front hub serviced.

My neighbour’s full suspension folding Birdy was in for a service this week. This is such a cool little bike! 18” wheels, 6 speeds derailleur with a 3 speed hub gear giving it 18 speeds in total.

Full degrease, new rear tyre, two new tubes, new chain, new cables throughout. Many years of use ahead for this one!

Feather Cycles Workshop regular, Carol, popped in to make her new Liv gravel bike winter ready and although it feels like the summer that keeps on giving, we know the inevitable is only a few rides around the corner.

I fitted a set of the outstanding Portland Design Works Full Metal Fender’s and her pedal of choice, Wahoo Speedplay Zero’s so there will be no corrosion issues over the coming months of rain, cold and salt.

Don’t get caught out, and don’t cover your mates in road spray. Book in now to have your very own rattle and rub free mudguards fitted.

New P E A T Y ‘ S valves and fresh SILCA Ultimate sealant setup on this S-Works Tarmac.

Annual service carried out on this Specialized Ruby with the help of Zachary Hutchinson during his few days here for work experience.

Alongside the service, the owner is ready to take the plunge to clip in pedals, so it also has a fresh set of SPDSL’s for her training in the run up to a triathlon relay later in the summer where she plans to ride the cycling leg of the race.

I’ve had a great few days with Zach also. He has carried out various tasks in the workshop, including helping with tube prep, braze-on finishing, getting all the bikes into showroom condition and has also taken a bunch of photos and video to put a video together at some point for the socials. He also took the photos in this post. I’m looking forward to having him around a day a week over the summer holidays to help keep things tidy around the workshop.
