Things got a little spooky around our offices this week, as employees had some Halloween fun. We always love seeing the creative costumes, pumpkin carvings and decorations this time of year!

Today, we announced that Eric Gerstenberg will serve as sole Chief Executive Officer, effective Jan. 1, 2027. Mike Battles will retire as Co-Chief Executive Officer and a member of the company’s Board of Directors on Dec. 31, 2026.

“Since appointing Eric and Mike as Co-CEOs in March 2023, Clean Harbors has experienced continued success,” said Rob Willett, Chairman of the Board. “This next step for our leadership team is endorsed by both Co-CEOs and the Board. Eric has proven himself to be an exceptional leader. With over 35 years at the company, his understanding of the business, operational insights and knowledge of the hazardous waste industry are unmatched.”

“At the same time, it is important to acknowledge how integral Mike has been to our success over the past decade, first as CFO then as Co-CEO,” continued Willett. “He played a key role in many value-enhancing initiatives and successful acquisitions that have strengthened the company. The entire Board joins me in thanking Mike for all he has done and we look forward to the company’s continued success under Eric’s capable leadership.”

Sammy Smith and his teams had a rare double win at Talladega this past weekend! He swept both the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series races at Talladega Superspeedway, becoming the first non-Cup driver to win both series races at a track in 25 years.

On Friday, driving the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet, Sammy won his first career Truck race in his 11th start. Then on Saturday, in the No. 8 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, he beat teammate Carson Kvapil by 0.084 seconds after a last lap pass. Safety-Kleen has been handling the UMO, parts cleaning, oil filter recycling and more for both teams since they began, and we’re thrilled to celebrate their victories!

Congratulations to J.R. Todd and the entire DHL Funny Car team on yet another victory, this time at the recent Texas NHRA FallNationals. The team put together an outstanding day last Sunday to earn their second victory of the year. Safety-Kleen is a proud supporter and sponsor of the DHL Funny Car team and the entire Kalitta Motorsports group, and we look forward to watching the championship race unfold.

What a year it's been so far for Vaters Motorsports and the Safety-Kleen Black Stallion truck. It’s been a season of determination, strength and multiple victories across the U.S. and Canada. From early wins in Pennsylvania to kicking off the Canadian Monster Spectacular Tour and everything in between, we’re proud to support Michael Vaters and the entire Vaters Motorsports Team – and can’t wait to see what’s to come for the rest of the 2026 season.

What a weekend for Casey Currie and the Currie Racing team in Baja California! The Safety-Kleen partner, driving its new Striker Jeep, claimed the victory at the NORRA 500 after two days of racing across some of the most diverse terrain Baja has to offer. A big shout out to General Manager Trevor York and the team at the Safety-Kleen branch in Highland, California for assisting Casey Currie Motorsports and building such a strong relationship.

It was yet another historic weekend for Safety-Kleen partner Kalitta Motorsports. Congrats to Shawn Langdon, crew chief Brian Husen, and the entire Kalitta Air Careers Top Fuel team on winning the NHRA Great Lakes Nationals at U.S. Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan. Shawn and the team put together an incredible race day, winning their second-straight event and sixth race of the season! It was especially meaningful to deliver a win for Kalitta Air in their home state, with so many members of the Kalitta family in attendance.

This National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, our teams showed up for their drivers with cookouts, surprises at the start of their shifts and many heartfelt messages. As one of the largest private motor carriers in North America, we understand the sacrifices that come with life on the road, and we don’t take them for granted. Thank you to our drivers for all they do to keep us moving forward, and for the incredible impact they make every day!

Although 25 years have passed since the tragedy that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001, for many of us, it remains a vivid memory.

Our teams were at Ground Zero to help with the cleanup and decontamination efforts, assisting wherever they could.

Every anniversary we renew our commitment to remembering the victims, honoring the survivors and first responders and keeping the spirit of service alive for the next generation.

We will never forget.
